Summaries of 9/11 Commission Interviews Released

The National Archives today released a set of records the 9/11 Commission gave it. It did so today because the commission told it it had to wait until 2009 to do so, presumably on the off chance that people would have forgotten about it all by then. The records are in two groups, Memorandums for the Record (MFR), which are available online, and other records, which are not available online.

I have been trawling through the ones that are available online and I have learned a few things of interest.

(1) Stacks of the MFR are not actually available. Either they have not been reviewed yet, or have been withdrawn because they are very classified, or they have been made available, but have had the bejesus redacted out of them.

(2) Two of the two key MFR, ...

Wow..

These MFRs are interesting. Why the redacted names from the Atta interview? I find it interesting that they even question in that MFR: 'whether Atta intended his luggage be discovered and searched?'

It then says that it was conclusive that Atta did not want his luggage to be found because he had made a last minute request the gate agent concerning his luggage. However, earlier in that MFR, it says that it was the 'passenger service representative' who made the request to the crew chief for Flight 11.

Still very secretive..

Found a very interesting account

Gregory J. McAleer was a flight attendant on Flight UA 514 on 8/13/01. He claims he saw and talked to Fayez Banihammed who boarded with a jump seat pass.

Airport Security Time....

It appears many of the alleged hijackers names weren't on the flight manifest which according to this MR, is because they had "jump passes" and pilots hitching a ride are not on the flight manifest.

How does one get a "jump" pass from an airline?

Whose in charge of airline security and what are the procedures?

What documents have to be given or forged for a hijackers to get to the jump seat?

A very interesting story in this MR.

More

The initial post at the blog has been updated. There is more about Able Danger, Osama Basnan, and thoughts about the shootdown of United 93.

After...

Reading through some of these docs, I am almost certain that the whole "Cold War/Post-Cold War" readiness/looking outward, schtick was a concocted story. Everyone is basically saying almost the exact same thing...

Do these people deserve to know how and why their loved ones were murdered? Do we deserve to know how and why 9/11 happened?
