Ed Asner Wants Ballot Referendum For New 9/11 Probe

Watch your back, Dick Cheney! Actor Ed Asner, former Dallas Cowboy Mark Stepnoski, and formerly famous hip hop group Arrested Development are leading a petition drive to get a referendum on New York City’s November ballot that would establish a new 9/11 investigation. If the group, called 911 Truth, can collect 30,000 signatures before September 4th, the City Council will be required to consider the measure, which calls for an investigative panel with subpoena authority.

Former Senator Mike Gravel (who would join the panel along with former senator Lincoln Chafee, Asner and 9/11 widow Lorie Van Auken) tells NY Mag that “the original commission didn’t get to the bottom of anything. We need to investigate from scratch.” Among the “Top 40” reasons the group gives to doubt the official story of 9/11, from their website:

  • "Al-CIA-da?" The longstanding relationship between US intelligence networks and radical Islamists.
  • Flight 93. Did the Shanksville crash occur at 10:06 (according to a seismic report) or 10:03 (according to the 9/11 Commission)? Does the Commission wish to hide what happened in the last three minutes of the flight, and if so, why?
  • Pentagon Strike. How was it possible the Pentagon was hit 1 hour and 20 minutes after the attacks began? Why was there no response from Andrews Air Force Base, just 10 miles away.

They currently have over 25,000 signatures from New York City residents, and volunteers are fanning out around town, with another (rival?) group, We Are Change, staking out the World Trade Center site (pictured above). So are they just a crowd of unhinged conspiracy theorists locked into a reflexive, anti-establishment world view that’s as paranoid as it is adolescent? Or, rather, vigilant citizens with the clarity see through the all jingoistic lies that thinly veil Dick Cheney’s treasonous agenda? Discuss!

See Ballot Initiative

See Ballot Initiative discussion here.

"The initiative itself demands that $100,000 annually be paid to each of the 9 specified commissioners. . . . These figures necessitate a base annual budget of $900,000 to $1,500,000, while the 5 year budget itself is quoted as $50 million."

$100,000 annually, for five years, for a man who says that he is "90 per cent sure that many of the thousands of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, recorded since the 1940s, belong to visitors from other planets"[5] and that UFOs have been the "subject of disinformation in order to deflect attention and to create confusion so the truth doesn't come out".[6]. Dateline NBC had an interview with Mitchell on April 19, 1996, during which he discussed meeting with officials from three countries who claimed to have had personal encounters with extraterrestrials. He offered his opinion that the evidence for such "alien" contact was "very strong" and "classified" by governments, who were covering up visitations and the existence of alien beings' bodies in places such as Roswell, New Mexico. He further claimed that UFOs had provided "sonic engineering secrets" that were helpful to the U.S. government. Mitchell's book, The Way of the Explorer, discusses his journey into mysticism and space [7].

good point

The call for a new investigation is the one thing that any honest individual can and should get behind, even if they are skeptical about the claims of the 9/11 Truth movement.

Having an investigation that is this blatantly compromised could actually set us back. The only good that might come of it would be some new information unearthed that might be useful to a future investigation. I don't have the answer to that one, but the shortcomings of this initiative should be brought forward so it can be better understood.

If this ever succeeds...

Rest assured that I will be the LOUDEST, and biggest pain in the ass when it comes to getting Commissioners without baggage that could be used against us. However, I still firmly believe that giving the people the choice for a new investigation is the ONLY way we might get one.

Do these people deserve to know how and why their loved ones were murdered? Do we deserve to know how and why 9/11 happened?

Incorrect! Commissioners are listed on the initiative.

Jon, that's an incorrect statement followed by a logical fallacy. Who are you talking to?

If this initiative ever made it on the ballot, and we have ample reason to think the mayor would never let that happen, people would be voting for Edgar Mitchell to be a commissioner.

And your second statement appears to indicate that this is our only path forward. Support this ballot initiative because its the only chance we have. Crap. And you know it.

People would be voting...

For a new investigation. Period. The make up of the Commission could change just as easily as it did for the 9/11 Commission with Henry Kissinger, Max Cleland, and so on. IF enough people made a stink about it. That I have little doubt of. As far as your second statement, the NYC Ballot Initiative is NOT our only path forward, but the sentiment put forward by me, that giving the people the chance to decide whether or not we get a new investigation, considering that ALL of the "Powers That Be" have ignored our requests, might be our only chance of getting a new investigation, is not rocket science.

Do these people deserve to know how and why their loved ones were murdered? Do we deserve to know how and why 9/11 happened?

Jules.

I received this from Dr. Pepper regarding your concerns. The wording of the petition can't be changed at this stage, but the makeup of the Commission could change radically;

"Though a list of supporters of the Initiative has been put forward with the individuals named as potential Commissioners, no final decision has been made as to the composition of the Commission. When the point is reached that the referendum will be put to the voters the plan is to solicit nominations from all interested parties. These nominations will be considered by a national steering committee which will include representatives of the victims' families, and the leaders of the various professional supporting organizations and groups. Only then, will the list of Commissioners be finalized. In the interim --keeping in mind that whilst 2008 was the target date for the Initiative, the organizers may well decide to put over the effort to the 2009 local elections in order to submit a number of Petitions of such volume that a political disqualification effort will not succeed- we are keeping abreast of comments with respect to all potential Commissioners as well as their ongoing activities.

An independent web site will be announced and made available to receive nominations and comments."

FYI.

Independent web site

This is certainly a good step, but I hope that this website is not run by a single person who can influence what information is communicated to the concerned parties. In other words, that it would be independent from any conflicts of interest. It would be useful to have email accounts set up to directly contact someone like Pepper to directly express critique and concern.

I understand that time constraints for some is an issue, but having a transparent process where concerns can be expressed openly and directly to influential members of the commission will help some feel that their concerns are being addressed. Thanks for posting this message by Pepper here.

Why Not Just Replace Mitchell?

Well if we don't like the commissioners or the panel for the investigation. Why not just complain about it. When enough people complain. They could replace Mitchell. If there any reason he would have to remain on the commision? I mean even if UFO's are true would we want that connected with 911? After all isn't the goal of the investigation is to wake people up and also hold accountable those responsible? DO we want to give sceptics an excuse to down play the movement by having Mitchell on the panel?

I don't get it. If he is what they say a UFO guy. Then how hard would it be to replace him and wouldn't he want to step down if he thought he would only hurt the investigation?

911 Was An Inside Job! For the mystery of Iniquity is now being revealed!

Reasonable people respond to reasonable criticism.

This assumes that concerns are communicated effectively and heard. You can't respond to what you aren't aware about.

Former Dallas Cowboys Super-Bowl winner and five time Pro Bowler Mark Stepnoski said in a radio interview on the Alex Jones show that anybody who still believes the official story of 9/11 is either incredibly naive or in complete denial, as he revealed how he considered the event to be a possible false flag operation on the very day it happened.

Stepnoski a favorite....

I hope, frankly, Mark Stepnoski becomes more active in 9/11 Truth. Stepnoski was excellent--if not brilliant--on a Jones interview, early last summer. It really left an impression!

Stepnoski demonstrates acumen by living in Vancouver, BC.

AJFan, as always, your links are much appreciated.
