Only YOU Can Prevent Truth Decay

Dear Friends,

You may be wondering whatever became of Notes From the Trail in recent weeks. For one thing, I've been totally immersed in finishing my part of the Spontaneous Evolution book draft, which is now with our editor. For another, travels have taken me to Massachusetts, Hawaii and now back to the East Coast for shows in Charlottesville, the Washington, D.C. area, and Asheville, North Carolina.

Throughout it all I've been reading and absorbing the various political missives, both inside and outside the matrix. In the electoral world of binary choices, I still prefer Obama to Hillary as I think his message and means more closely approach the paradigm shift that is needed. However, the more important conversation right now is in the "outside the matrix" domain.

Over the past few weeks, I have been inundated with emails regarding economic collapse, the imminent bombing of Iran, martial law, and creeping fascism perpetrated by fascist creeps. Unfortunately, none of these alarming messages come with any strategic action attached, other than one call for a general strike. Personally, as a FUNdamentalist (accent on "fun") I suspect that a general ball would have more takers.

This e-mail, however, is about a specific action that can begin to make a difference. Nearly two years ago, a Zogby poll found that one third of Americans believe forces in our government were complicit in the 9/11 attacks -- all this in spite of mainstream media's refusal to in any way acknowledge anything contradicting the official 9/11 conspiracy theory. In his most recent book, 9/11 Contradictions: An Open Letter to Congress and the Press, David Ray Griffin specifically appeals to the media and to Congress to investigate the actual and documented contradictions between testimony and the 9/11 Commission's conclusions. I plan to do a more extensive review of this book sometime soon, but the most blatant area of contradiction has to do with the eye-witness testimony released after the Commission made its report.

This testimony -- mostly from police and fire-fighters on the scene -- suggests that the Twin Towers collapse (not to mention Building 7) were planned demolitions. Statement after statement -- again, primarily from people who have been around fires, explosions and demolitions -- mention a series of explosions and compare the pancake collapse of the buildings to planned demolitions. Many of these candid statements were made before the official story was in place, and before witnesses were strongly encouraged to "re-remember" what they saw differently.

While many thinking people of conscience roll their eyes at any mention of an alternative 9/11 story, consider that the response to the attacks are at the foundation of so many of the other problems we face today. Were it not for the attacks, the Administration would have had no excuse to attack Iraq or impose de facto martial law. Bush would not have been re-elected in 2004 as a "war president." And we likely wouldn't be facing the extreme financial meltdown mitigated by bottomless war spending.

A Likelier Story

As we allow ourselves to examine a more likely story than the one that's been shoved down our throats, we might consider Herman Goering's frank testimony at the Nuremberg trials, "Naturally the common people don't want war ... But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship ... All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Indeed, in a peace-loving country like the United States, just about every war since the Mexican War has been triggered by an "incident" where American soldiers or ships were wantonly attacked, thus warranting retaliation. In the Spanish American war, it was the sinking of the battleship Maine in Havana harbor. America's entry into World War I was triggered by the sinking of a passenger ship, the Lusitania. Pearl Harbor was our reason for entering World War II, and escalation of Vietnam came about because of the "Gulf of Tonkin incident."

However, when you look beneath the surface, the story is just that ... a story. In the case of the Maine, there has never been any conclusive proof that the explosion was caused by a mine in the harbor. The Lusitania, it turns out, was a passenger ship that was secretly carrying armaments from America to Britain, and thus technically "a war ship" and a fair target. Oh, and according to recently declassified National Security Agency documents, the Gulf of Tonkin "attack" never occured. There was some enemy fire, but it was in response to South Vietnamese boats firing on North Vietnamese targets.

Even Pearl Harbor, the incident that caused America's entry into the closest thing to a "holy war," or at least a wholly-justified one, is tainted. Thanks to a book called Day of Deceit by Robert Stinnett -- based on documents released via the Freedom of Information Act -- we now know that President Franklin D. Roosevelt had foreknowledge of the Pearl Harbor attack, and allowed it to happen. According to Stinnett, there was a secret U.S. Navy monitoring station at Pearl Harbor that was intercepting Japanese codes prior to the December 7th attack. An intercepted message sent November 25th read: "...the task force, keeping its movements strictly secret and maintaining close guard against submarines and aircraft, shall advance into Hawaiian waters, and upon the very opening of hostilities shall attack the main force of the United States fleet in Hawaii and deal it a mortal blow..."

When we apply the wisdom of pattern recognition, though, we must face the likelihood that a "surprise attack" is the unlikeliest story of all. So what do we do about it? It turns out that there is a work of "fiction" called The Shell Game that presents an alternative story of what happened that day and why. By sending this book up the best-seller list, we can force mainstream media to address the issue. My friend Kyle Hence is involved in such a campaign. There are only a few ways we the people can impact the political conversation at election time. But through the wise and focused use of our economic clout, we can move mountains. Let's begin here. If we dismantle the official 9/11 story, we dismantle not just this regime, but the rule of lawlessness it has spawned. There is no savior who can wave a wand and release us from the spell of lies, fear and criminality. This time it is up to us.
