So they're going to dig up Harry Houdini. They want to see if he was poisoned by a powerful league of spiritualists for exposing their phony séances. The doctor who'll examine the remains also exhumed Jesse James's coffin a few years ago--to see if the outlaw outwitted authorities by having another man buried in his place.
People love a good conspiracy theory, which may be one of the reasons that actor Charlie Sheen is going to narrate a documentary about how the World Trade Towers were brought down by the U.S. government. About the same time, Rosie O'Donnell added her credibility to the project.
It was an interesting coincidence that their announcements hit the news just as the military released Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's confession regarding his role in planning the 9/11 attacks--and a lot more. Of course, we didn't really need his confession, because his career has been so well documented.
But sure enough, the terrorist's admissions instantly drew sneers, and not just from the tin-foil hat crowd. Well-placed people acted like Mohammed's smug confessions meant nothing.
A lot of people have at least a little in common with Sheen and O'Donnell. They just don't like to think about how much our enemies actually hate us. It's easier to escape down a rabbit hole to a land where our own government is tricking us into thinking the world is a dangerous place.
This would be the same government that can't even keep our most secret surveillance programs out of the newspapers.

reality: this is a classic tactic of projecting your own flaws onto your enemies. it is the people who need to be assured that their enemies are swarthy foreigners who choose to live in the pre-fab fantasy world served up by the mainstream media and shit tanks like AEI. they are comforted to know that despite all their insecurities over money, love, etc. they can at least count on the nanny state to protect them. it's these people who have never outgrown their need for parental approval and who therefore cannot bring themselves to think for themselves, preferring to live on a "need to know" basis. Without someone providing them with a meta-narrative for their shallow lives they would be at a loss to discern on their own the meaning and purpose of their lives. They are literally addicted to the false and oddly comforting world of fast food, American Idol, bogus terror threats, and false heroics a la Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman.
So Mr. Thompson, you're right--I'd rather not waste time thinking about how much you must hate humanity to be able to do what you do. I would much rather hold you accountable, lock you up, and forget you exist.

It's important to note who David Frum is and the responsibility he bears for creating the problem he now has no idea how to solve. Frum, who was President Bush's former speechwriter, is a resident fellow of the radical neoconservative American Enterprise Institute that has cheered on from the beginning (and continues to cheer on) not only America's involvement in Iraq, but also military intervention in Iran and Syria. His 2005 book The Right Man: An Inside Account of the Bush White House sycophantically gushes over the leadership qualities of George Bush, and his latest screed, An End to Evil, co-written with fellow neoconservative Richard Perle, defends the Iraq War and advocates a hard military line against Iran and Syria. David Frum and his neoconservative comrades bear as much responsibility for this war as anyone else. His nonsensical, stuttering answer to how we solve the problem he helped create is revealing and downright infuriating.
