Global Research recently published my essay entitled 9/11, Deep State Violence and the Hope of Internet Politics In this article, I argue that 9/11 should be analyzed as a deep event (an event not fully aired or understood because of its intelligence connections) and above all as one of a series of deep events which from time to time have frustrated peace initiatives or become pretexts for war.

In support of this overall thesis I pointed to features of 9/11 which recalled similar deep events: the still not fully understood outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, the JFK assassination, and the so-called Second Tonkin Gulf Incident of 1964 (an alleged attack on U.S. destroyers which we now know never happened).

The Deep State and 9/11

The unthinkable – that elements inside the state would conspire with criminals to kill innocent civilians – has become not only thinkable but commonplace in the last century. A seminal example was in French Algeria, where dissident elements of the French armed forces, resisting General de Gaulle’s plans for Algerian independence, organized as the Secret Army Organization and bombed civilians indiscriminately, with targets including hospitals and schools. Critics like Alexander Litvinenko, who was subsequently murdered in London in November 2006, have charged that the 1999 bombings of apartment buildings around Moscow, attributed to Chechen separatists, were in fact the work of the Russian secret service (FSB).

Similar attacks in Turkey have given rise to the notion there of an extra-legal "deep state" – a combination of forces, ranging from former members of the CIA-organized Gladio organization, to "a vast matrix of security and intelligence officials, ultranationalist members of the Turkish underworld and renegade former members of the [Kurdish separatist] PKK." The deep state, financed in part by Turkey’s substantial heroin traffic, has been accused of killing thousands of civilians, in incidents such as the lethal bomb attack in November 2005 on a bookshop in Semdinli. This attack, initially attributed to the Kurdish separatist PKK, turned out to have been committed by members of Turkey's paramilitary police intelligence service, together with a former PKK member turned informer. On April 23, 2008, the former Interior Minister Mehmet Agar was ordered to stand trial for his role in this dirty war during the 1990s.

This documentary deals with continuity of government, secret government, detainment camps, terrorizing citizens as means to political ends.
It's a history lesson and provides precedent to what we are seeing today under the Bush Administration.

*The volume isn't great in this documentary, but it was the best I could find. I wore headphones and it helped.

It may seem naïve to some, to offer pledge cards to the military asking them not to participate in a False Flag operation. However, sometimes the right message needs to get to the right person, and who is to say that a pledge card wouldn't be a good way to get the message delivered? It might help someone think over a decision that they may regret for the rest of their life.

In 1966, LTC USASF (Ret.) Daniel Marvin refused to participate in a False Flag operation. Now retired, Marvin revealed his story in a book called "Expendable Elite". The hardback was released in 2003, after nearly 20 years of searching for a publisher. Immediately following the release of the book, the Special Forces Association began a campaign to discredit the book's contents, and ultimately bankrolled a libel suit against Marvin and his publishers. Marvin won the legal battle, and the whole sordid tale is included in the softcover version of the book, which you can order directly from the publisher, TrineDay.

The chief claim in the book which set a legal battle in motion that has cost Marvin and TrineDay over $150,000 in legal fees appears to be this; in June of 1966, a CIA agent by the name of Walter Mackem approached Marvin with a plot to assassinate Prince Norodom Sihanouk, at the time, Cambodia's Head of State;

He very matter-of-factly told me that the agency had been asked to dispose of a very delicate situation... "We've been asked to terminate Prince Sihanouk. Yours is the closest Special Forces Camp to Phom Penh; you've got all Hoa Hoa's in your CIDG and their record is good. We want you take care of it... because we believe you can get the job done." ...

"You want us to assassinate Crown Prince Sihanouk?" I asked, not really believing he'd come to ask us to kill Cambodia's Head of State. "Don't get me wrong, I've got no love for Sihanouk, but don't you have some of your own people in Cambodia who could make the hit?"

"Yes... we want you to do the job." Mackem went on to tell me their analysis had determined that the Cambodians would take up arms against VC and NVA forces and push them back into Laos or North Vietnam if their Prince was thought to have been killed by the Viet Cong. "Your job," he went on to say, "will be to bring about his death and make it appear to have been done by the VC."

In the wake of Philip Shenon's best-seller, "The Commission", comes another wave of Americans snapping out of a media-induced trance. On another front, to a different audience, Willie Nelson is waking up another sector of the sleepwalking masses with his skepticism. Whatever route you took that made you take a second look at 9/11, welcome... and, you've got some catching up to do.

If Shenon's book was your introduction to the simple fact that the 9/11 Commission failed in its mandate on several levels, then you are probably unaware that serious criticism of the 9/11 Commission was entered into the Congressional Record of the 109th Congress. This criticism was the result of a Congressional Briefing conducted by former Congressional Representative, Cynthia McKinney of Georgia. (McKinney is currently seeking the Presidential nomination for the Green Party of the United States.)

The briefing was held on July 22nd, 2005, subsequently broadcast by C-SPAN, and studiously ignored by the corporate press. A comprehensive collation of the briefing has not been made available online, but thanks to the magic of YouTube, I have chopped the most pertinent testimonies from that day into neat 10 minute segments that are easily digestible for the busy internet surfer. You may have seen some of the footage from the briefing in the documentary, "Press for Truth", where Lorie Van Auken talked about her husband's fate on 9/11. Beyond that, not much of this footage has been circulating on the net.

So, if you are new to 9/11 Truth, or 9/11 skepticism, or you just have some questions, this is a great start. This briefing does not present much speculation or theory, but does break down the Commission on its bureaucratic failings, and lists a host of anomalies that will send you researching for days if this is all new to you. (This briefing does not discuss controlled demolition theories at all, it wasn't until physicist Steven Jones came on the scene in 2006 that CD "exploded" into the massive topic for 9/11 skeptics that is currently is. There was a lot of research already published online, and some in books, but it took a PhD to kick it over the top.)

The YouTube series is in 25 parts, and begins with McKinney's opening statement;

Peter Dale Scott, professor emeritus at the University of California-Berkeley, is one of the world's leading scholars on the JFK assassination, CIA drug dealing, martial law/"continuity of government," and now 9/11. His recent book The Road to 9/11 locates these and other crimes along the rising trajectory of the American "overworld," which he describes as "that realm of wealthy or privileged society that, although not formally authorized or institutionalized, is the scene of successful influence of government by private power."

The Road to 9/11, the first 9/11 revisionist book published by a major university press, is a copiously documented interpretation of contemporary history. Along with its accurate diagnosis of how wrong things have gone, the book offers hope, suggesting that the creation and nourishing of alternative institutions (including alternative media like 911blogger and patriot radio) can help us get out of this mess.

Peter Dale Scott is a lively personality and accomplished poet as well as a leading alternative historian. It should be a great interview.

In the above video, Peter Dale Scott talks about the futility of engaging with a system that offers no real choice, referencing Gore Vidal, who has said, in various ways, "We only have one political party in the U.S., and that is the property party, which essentially is corporate America, which has two right wings, one called Republican and one called Democrat. I can't say I like either of them."

In his book, (which he quotes from in the video), The Road to 9/11, Scott points out that real change in this country is not going to come from the top down. In other words, substituting one representative of the Property Party for another is not going to change anything. Real change in this country will come from the bottom-up, through the networking efforts of grass-roots activists and media activism that currently has its home on the internet. A real, workable coalition is needed, engaging the divided voting public. Scott writes that what we need "is a movement, like that of Solidarity in Poland, that unites the various elements in civil society instead of setting them against each other. I suspect that left and right, by discarding preconceptions and learning more about those whom they presume to be adversaries, could discover that they may have more in common than they believe."
