February, 2007 marks the point in time where the Left media in the United States pulled its head out of its collective ass and finally addressed some of the anomalies of 9/11. It's easy to point fingers and say they haven't done enough, and it's true. Frankly, C-SPAN, a not-for-profit entity funded, (ironically enough), by loose change that the cable industry has laying around, has done far more in terms of transmitting the points of view emanating from the 9/11 skeptics.

Nevertheless, Sander Hicks got the ball rolling this month at AlterNet.org with his article, 9/11: The Case Isn't Closed. Hicks does not focus on physical anomalies like the WTC collapses, but spends his time pointing out the crumb trails of U.S. intelligence agencies all over the place on 9/11, and how some of these agencies thwarted investigations that could have stopped the attacks from occurring at all, had they proceeded in good faith.

I have three small quibbles with Hicks' article, but none with his intent. The first is accepting Peter Lance at face value. Although I respect Lance for investigating Patrick Fitzgerald's possible malfeasance in regard to Ali Mohamed, I don't think the Ali Mohamed story is as complicated as the notion of a "Triple Agent" would imply. In my opinion, it's more likely that Mohamed was a controlled asset on the pullstrings of Western intelligence, in the same way that Omar Saeed Sheikh is alleged to have been. Further, the Discovery Channel has produced an investigative report about TWA 800 that bolsters the theory that it was brought down with some sort of projectile, not a bomb. This is consistent with eyewitness testimony concerning TWA 800.

Secondly, Hicks leans on Daniel Hopsicker, and Hopsicker leans on what seems to me to be a very unreliable lynch-pin, a woman by the name of Amanda Keller. Mohamed Atta's girlfriend. "But the former Venice stripper now says her boyfriend was another flight student not connected to 9/11." Alrighty, then. Can you imagine going to trial with her as a witness? I'm no Law expert, but it seems to me that a competent defense attorney would wet himself in anticipation knowing that he could summon her to the stand.

The LINK TV broadcast featured an additional 8 minutes of commentary after the regular Democracy NOW! broadcast, linked below. The additional segment looks at Carl Cameron's piece a bit more, and Ketcham reveals that his FOX sources told him that Abe Foxman (ADL) put pressure on FOX's parent company, NEWSCORP to shut down Cameron's investigation.

Cheering Movers and Art Student Spies: Was Israel Tracking the Hijackers Before the 9/11 Attacks?

A new article in the newsletter Counterpunch examines unresolved questions over whether Israeli agents were tracking the 9/11 hijackers before September 11th. ABC’s 20/20, The Forward, and Salon.com have all covered the story. But where’s the follow up? We speak to the author of the article, Christopher Ketcham; Counterpunch editor Alexander Cockburn, and Marc Perelman, the Forward reporter who did one of the first reports on the story in 2002.

Were Israeli agents tracking the 9/11 hijackers before September 11th? In 2002, ABC’s 20/20 Salon.com and The Jewish newspaper The Forward all did this story. But where’s the follow up?

Freelance journalist Christopher Ketcham has just published a comprehensive piece on this story in the newsletter Counterpunch. The article highlights various interconnected stories: The five Israeli “movers” who witnesses say were cheering after the first plane struck the World Trade Center; the so-called Israeli art students who were living in concentrated areas where hijackers were living around the United States and how two of the hijackers ended up on the Watch List weeks before 9/11.

Christopher Ketcham, the author of the article, joins us on the line from upstate New York. Alexander Cockburn also joins us on the line. He is the editor of Couterpunch where the piece is published. And with us here in the firehouse studio is Marc Perelman he is the reporter who did one of the first reports on the story for The Forward in 2002.

CW11 New York ran a 7 minute spot on 9/11 'conspiracy theories' last night on their 10 o'clock news. While the clip is somewhat focused around Gary Welz, a college professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Fordham and a member of Scholars for 9/11 Truth & Justice, it merely uses him as a context for which to cover the larger subject of 9/11 conspiracy theories. The spot begins with X-Files music and quickly runs through a gamut of conspiracy theories from JFK, to Marilyn Monroe and Princess Di's murders, to Tupac, Elvis, and even Ken Lay still being alive. The spot labels all of these (and 9/11 conspiracy theories) as 'urban legends' and even features David Dunbar (author of 'Debunking 9/11 Myths') mentioning how such skepticism dishonors the dead.

Other things worth noting from the video are Gery Welz's comments on his experience on the morning of 9/11 (he saw the 2nd plane fly overhead into the south tower with a group of friends), bringing up how the EPA lied about the air quality around ground zero, the polls which support widespread skepticism, a brief mention of Loose Change and the missile at the Pentagon theory, the debunked 'plume' footage retracted from 9/11: In Plane Site, a reference to Dr. Griffin's book 'Christian Faith and the Truth Behind 9/11' (although no mention of Dr. Griffin by name), and the claims of Flight 93's plume photo being fake.

According to CW11 New York's website they are "seen in over 10 million homes through over-the-air and satellite distribution". You can stream this video via their webpage for their Fact Finders segments.

A 9/11 Gov’t Conspiracy? ‘I Wouldn’t Be Surprised,’ Says Tikkun Editor

Rabbi Michael Lerner, the longtime activist and editor of Tikkun magazine, has published an essay saying he is open to the possibility that the American government may have been behind the September 11 terrorist attacks.

“I would not be surprised to learn that some branch of our government conspired either actively to promote or passively to allow the attack on 9/11,” Lerner wrote in an essay published in the new book, “9/11 and American Empire: Christians, Jews, and Muslims Speak Out.” Lerner added that he would also not be surprised if it turned out that the attacks were not the result of a government conspiracy.

“I am agnostic on the question of what happened on 9/11,” he wrote in his essay for the book, which includes articles by other contributors arguing that a government conspiracy was behind the September 11 attacks. “As other authors in this collection have shown, there are huge holes in the official story and contradictions that suggest that we do not know the whole story.”

There is a virus sweeping the world. It infects opponents of the Bush government, sucks their brains out through their eyes and turns them into gibbering idiots. First cultivated in a laboratory in the US, the strain reached these shores a few months ago. In the past fortnight, it has become an epidemic. Scarcely a day now passes without someone possessed by this sickness, eyes rolling, lips flecked with foam, trying to infect me.

The disease is called Loose Change. It is a film made by three young men that airs most of the standard conspiracy theories about the attacks of September 11 2001. Unlike the other 9/11 conspiracy films, Loose Change is sharp and swift, with a thumping soundtrack, slick graphics and a calm and authoritative voiceover. Its makers claim that it has now been watched by 100 million people.

The film's greatest flaw is this: the men who made it are still alive. If the US government is running an all-knowing, all-encompassing conspiracy, why did it not snuff them out long ago? There is only one possible explanation. They are in fact agents of the Bush regime, employed to distract people from its real abuses of power. This, if you are inclined to believe such stories, is surely a more plausible theory than the one proposed in Loose Change.

Building number 7 is the key

Those who poo-poo alternative theories about 9-11 should adopt the methods of science and try to explain what happened to the building that was not hit by a plane.

We’ve just witnessed, if not participated in, a massive conspiracy. Tens of millions of people every winter conspire in a flat out lie to fool millions more of society’s most gullible members when they all agree to keep silent about the truth about Santa Claus. Sure, you're laughing, that’s a funny example of a conspiracy, but there it is: those who deny there could possibly be massive conspiracies involving thousands of people or even millions, are wrong.

Hannah Arendt, among so many others, wrote about how the German people were swept up in a conspiracy of lies about how the Jews among them were not human, and so deserved to be exterminated. When professional standing, personal prestige, working incomes, even ordinary, seldom-examined personal belief systems, are at stake, millions will engage in the common telling of lies if they find it necessary to do so to sustain their place in life. According to authors like Arendt, they don't even necessarily know they are telling lies.

CLEARWATER - It is a Thursday evening, an ordinary night.

From the community room of Panera Bread, the westerly flow of commuters can be seen heading into the sunset on busy Ulmerton Road.

Gathered here are a dozen or so like-minded souls from the Tampa Bay 9/11 Truth Meetup Group.

They share a common belief: The official story of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, is absolutely false.

"We're the Minutemen!" says retired nurse Jeanne Lucsynski of Wesley Chapel, who is sitting at a corner table with her laptop.

A 9/11 Truth meeting can sound like a cross between "The X Files" and an American history lesson.

Members are convinced that the U.S. government, or global elitists, felled the World Trade Center and used Arab hijackers as decoys. They want to speak out, like patriots of the American Revolution.

Lucsynski calls it the Internet Tea Party. This time, King George is in the White House.

OK, say they're crazy.

But Americans love a good conspiracy theory, a Scripps Howard-Ohio University poll released in August confirms.

The poll showed that an astounding 36 percent - one in three - believe it is "very likely" or "somewhat likely" the U.S. government had something to do with the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and allowed them to happen so the United States could go to war in the Middle East.

And 16 percent of the 1,010 adults surveyed in the national poll said "yes" when asked if they believed secret explosives - not jets - took down the Twin Towers.

The suspicions have gained enough popularity to rival conspiracy theories claiming the government was involved in John F. Kennedy's assassination or that it has hidden the existence of space aliens.
