Third NSA Source Confirms: Flight 93 Shot Down By Air Force Jet

"WMR has received another confirmation, bringing the total number to three, that United Flight 93, hijacked on the morning of September 11, 2001, was shot down over rural Pennsylvania by U.S. Air Force jets scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. There are also reports that one F-16 scrambled from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia returned to base minus one air-to-air missile but the National Security Agency CRITIC report specified the interceptors that downed United 93 took off from Andrews.

Congress considers medals for 9/11's Flight 93 victims

Relatives of the passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 are stepping up pressure on Congress to decide whether the people who died fighting their attackers on Sept. 11, 2001, deserve the nation's highest civilian award.

Bills to honor the actions of those on Flight 93 have been popping up since days after the plane crashed in a field outside Shanksville, Pa., during a passenger-led attack against their al-Qaeda hijackers that prevented a possible strike on the White House or the U.S. Capitol.

Five bills have been introduced in six years to award the Congressional Gold Medal to Flight 93's passengers and crew. Some bills called for a medal for the men who attacked the terrorists, an event gleaned from phone calls from passengers to loved ones aboard.

But a decision on whether to award a medal that was also bestowed on George Washington, Walt Disney and the 1980 U.S. Summer Olympic Team has languished. Some bills called for everyone who died that day to get a medal; others just a few, or even creating a new honor.

Those who enjoy the quiet sanctity of flying because of the mobile phone ban on planes, may soon have their peace shattered.

The communications regulator Ofcom said plans are now in place to allow passengers on UK-registered aircraft to use their own mobiles while in flight over Europe.

Some airlines already offer passengers in-flight telephone services via the airline's own network.

But the new arrangement will involve passengers' own mobiles connecting to an on-board base station.

Both of these must be switched off during take-off and landing to ensure they do not interfere with mobile networks on the ground.

Once the aircraft reaches a minimum height of 9,840ft (3,000m), the system may be switched on by the cabin crew.

Mobile users will then be able to use the aircraft's network service to make and receive calls which will be routed via a satellite link to the network on the ground...
