German Lawsuit Seeks Criminal Charges for Rumsfeld Over Treatment of "20th Hijacker"

Much of the talk at 911blogger lately has moved away from compiling evidence regarding government complicity with 9/11 and toward questions about activism. What next? many are saying.

I believe, and have stated, that 9/11 Truth has two years before the door of opportunity closes. I do not believe the Democrats will push for a 9/11 investigation. I do believe, however, that there are other ways to elicit an investigation. This news item suggested one of them:

Charges Sought Against Rumsfeld Over Prison Abuses

"New legal documents, to be filed next week with Germany's top prosecutor, will seek a criminal investigation and prosecution of Rumsfeld, along with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former CIA director George Tenet and other senior U.S. civilian and military officers, for their alleged roles in abuses committed at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison and at the U.S. detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The plaintiffs in the case include 11 Iraqis who were prisoners at Abu Ghraib, as well as Mohammad al-Qahtani, a Saudi held at Guantanamo, whom the U.S. has identified as the so-called "20th hijacker" and a would-be participant in the 9/11 hijackings. As TIME first reported in June 2005, Qahtani underwent a "special interrogation plan," personally approved by Rumsfeld, which the U.S. says produced valuable intelligence. But to obtain it, according to the log of his interrogation and government reports, Qahtani was subjected to forced nudity, sexual humiliation, religious humiliation, prolonged stress positions, sleep deprivation and other controversial interrogation techniques."

Rumsfeld resigns

As predicted, the fall of a once powerful architect of war and the man who made 'shock and awe' a household phrase.

Loved by few but Republican diehards, but known for his occasional insightful slips of the tongue, could 'Rummy' feel the need to
set the record straight and thereby become the superwhistleblower whose confessional tendencies will bring the house of Bush-Cheney tumbling?

Go on, Donald, we're listening. Tell us how it was for you.

Pentagon steps up 'battle of ideas'

Given the deliberate disinfo we sometimes get on this site, posting this article seems appropriate (of course, they don't mention targeting the 9/11 Truth Movement):

Pentagon steps up 'battle of ideas'
By Simon Hooper for CNN

(CNN) -- The Pentagon's latest recruits are not soldiers, spies or scientists but spin doctors, bloggers and YouTube DIY filmmakers as it prepares to launch a vigorous new media campaign in support of its ongoing military efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On Monday the U.S. Defense Department announced it was setting up a "rapid response" operation in order to "get inside the 24/7 news cycle" amid growing criticism of the conduct of the war in Iraq and the leadership of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

The new operation is dedicated to providing "more timely responses to breaking news," reacting promptly to critical coverage and offering Pentagon-friendly "information products" to media organizations.

As well as providing experts, guests and analysts to speak publicly on the Pentagon's behalf to the traditional TV, radio and print media, the new operation will also concentrate on harnessing the growing power of new media as a means of getting its message across.

One branch will be dedicated to "creating products and distributing information" for the Internet such as blogs, podcasts and video content for Web sites such as YouTube.

Rumsfeld and Ashcroft Also Given Tenet Briefing

We previously reported that, in July 2001, CIA director Tenet briefed Condie Rice about impending attacks and the fact that the 9/11 Commission knew about it, yet didn't disclose it in its report.

Now, it turns out that Donald Rumsfeld and then Attorney General Ashcroft received the same briefing. McClatchy Newspapers broke the story:

"Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and former Attorney General John Ashcroft received the same CIA briefing about an imminent al-Qaida strike on an American target that was given to the White House two months before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The State Department's disclosure Monday that the pair was briefed within a week after then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice was told about the threat on July 10, 2001, raised new questions about what the Bush administration did in response, and about why so many officials have claimed they never received or don't remember the warning.

One official who helped to prepare the briefing, which included a PowerPoint presentation, described it as a "10 on a scale of 1 to 10" that "connected the dots" in earlier intelligence reports to present a stark warning that al-Qaida, which had already killed Americans in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and East Africa, was poised to strike again.

Rumsfeld, Ashcroft received warning of al Qaida attack before 9/11

WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and former Attorney General John Ashcroft received the same CIA briefing about an imminent al-Qaida strike on an American target that was given to the White House two months before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The State Department's disclosure Monday that the pair was briefed within a week after then-National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice was told about the threat on July 10, 2001, raised new questions about what the Bush administration did in response, and about why so many officials have claimed they never received or don't remember the warning.

question: was this the warning that prompted Ashcroft to stop flying commercial aircraft?

The Secretary of Defense Stands Down on 9/11

The CNN documentary "America Remembers," includes footage of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's immediate actions after the Pentagon was hit. CNN's Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr describes what happened : "Secretary Rumsfeld was in his suite of offices on the other side of the building from the impact zone. He felt it and he immediately was on the attack site within moments, much to the displeasure of his security people, but he did it, and there are pictures of the secretary helping other men carry stretchers of the injured."

Yet surely, as secretary of defense, shouldn't Rumsfeld have been concerning himself with defending America from further attacks? What if there'd been another attack on the Pentagon? In fact, emergency workers had to be evacuated from the area at around 10:15 a.m., due to an erroneous report of another hijacked aircraft approaching. And according to the recent Vanity Fair "9/11 Live" article, false reports of hijackings continued "well into the afternoon" of 9/11. So why wasn't Rumsfeld helping to protect his country?

Keith Olbermann Delivers One Hell Of a Commentary on Rumsfeld

OlbermannBlastsRumsfeldOnFacism_0001.jpg

Keith had some very choice words about Rumsfeld’s "fascism" comments tonight. Watch it, save it and share it.

For video links see here

Olbermann delivered this commentary with fire and passion while highlighting how Rumsfeld’s comments echoes other times in our world’s history when anyone who questioned the administration was coined as a traitor, unpatriotic, communist or any other colorful term. Luckily we pulled out of those times and we will pull out of these times.

Remember - Rumsfeld did not just call the Democrats out yesterday, he called out a majority of this country. This wasn’t only a partisan attack, but more so an attack against the majority of Americans.

The transcript of Keith’s comments tonight is available below the fold.
