Here is a very brief summary of what the experts say about torture:
- Torture actually reduces our national security
- Prosecuting those who created the torture program will REDUCE attacks against the U.S. and against American troops
- Most of those tortured were innocent
- They were not tortured in order to prevent terrorist attacks, but to create a false justification for the war in Iraq (by creating a false linkage between Iraq and Al Qaeda) (and see this)
- The 9/11 Commission report was primarily based upon confessions from those who were tortured. However, none of the information from those who confessed is credible. For example, one of the main sources for the 9/11 Commission Report was tortured until he agreed to sign a confession that he was not even allowed to read. See also this, this, this and this.

Their downfall
Torture may become one of the prime factors in bringing down the real bad-guys.
A sweet, if horrific, justice to that.
thank you GW
for continually blogging about this issue, with clarity and plenty of links. Torture is immoral, illegal, it doesn't work, it makes the US and our troops less safe, it makes America like what Bush-Cheney and Obushma claim we're fighting against, it makes a mockery of the values and principals that made America great and admired. On top of all this, many of those tortured were innocent, and false confessions have been used to justify the bogus "war on terror", which is really an imperialist war to benefit the corporate-military complex.

The experts forgot something
Torture is sadistic, immoral, indefensible, cruel and inhumane. Torture is an instrument of totalitarian regimes. Torture is barbaric.
Bottom line
Bottom line is, If it's wrong for the "bad guys" (Nazis, Stalinists etc) to torture, how is it right for the supposed "good guys" to use torture???? It essentially removes the distinction.
"Torture is immoral,
"Torture is immoral, illegal,"
-- "Give me control of a nation's money and I care not who makes her laws." - Mayer Amschel Rothschild ||
"it doesn't work, "
-- Yeah it does. It terrorizes people who an invading imperial power seeks to control. It lets folks back home who disagree with the government know that the government now treats its enemies with torture... On top of that it provides coerced "confessions" used to justify plunder-serving military occupation and increased State repression to silence dissent and maximize conformity and control. ||
"it makes the US and our troops less safe,"
-- That never was the intention. This country's citizens and troops are being used to maximize the wealth and power of an elite class. And by "used" I mean robbed and killed -- far from safe. ||
"it makes America like what Bush-Cheney and Obushma claim we're fighting against,"
-- "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people" - H.L. Menken ||
"it makes a mockery of the values and principals that made America great and admired."
-- "values and principals"? Land theft? Slavery? Genocide? Industrial plunder and pollution? NAFTA?, etc, etc.? "Great" for whom? ||
"many of those tortured were innocent"
-- They weren't being punished. The invasion and occupation has nothing to to with seeking and upholding justice. They were being tortured.
The United States is a torture regime. It’s an empire. It’s bent on subjugating people all over the world, and that’s what it does.
