Continuity of Government: Best Case Scenario
Let's assume that I am incorrect in concluding that Continuity of Government (COG) plans -- which suspend the Constitutional form of government -- are currently in effect today. In other words, let's assume that while the U.S. has been in a continual state of emergency since 9/11, and COG plans were, in fact, implemented on 9/11, that they were secretly rescinded at some point afterwords.
Would it mean that we should ignore the whole issue?
No, because:
- NSPD51 was passed without Congressional input
- Indeed, implementation of COG on 9/11 was kept hidden from Congress
- Even the New York Times wrote in an editorial:
“Beyond cases of actual insurrection, the President may now use military troops as a domestic police force in response to a natural disaster, a disease outbreak, terrorist attack, or to any ‘other condition.’ Changes of this magnitude should be made only after a thorough public airing. But these new Presidential powers were slipped into the law without hearings or public debate.”
Everyone from "conservative activist Jerome Corsi [to] Marjorie Cohn of the [liberal] National Lawyer's Guild have interpreted [the COG plans contained in Presidential Directive NSPD-51] as a break from Constitutional law ...."
As a reporter for Slate concluded after analyzing NSPD-51: White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said that "because of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the American public needs no explanation of [Continuity of Government] plans"
In the summer of 2007 - Congressman Peter DeFazio, on the Homeland Security Committee (and so with proper security access to be briefed on COG issues), inquired about continuity of government plans, and was refused access. Indeed, DeFazio told Congress that the entire Homeland Security Committee of the U.S. Congress has been denied access to the plans by the White House (video; or here is the transcript). DeFazio concluded: "Maybe the people who think there's a conspiracy out there are right". Given the above, even under a best-case scenario -- that is, assuming that COG plans are not still in effect -- it is urgent to pay attention to this issue.
Congress, the Courts, and the American people must demand that COG plans be rescidned which
(1) allow the plans to be unilaterally implemented on a whim by the White House;
(2) may be continued past the time they are absolutely necessary for the survival of our country; or
(3) unnecessarily destroy Constitutional protections, when our country could still be protected if such protections were respected.
If We Are Not Currently under Martial Law, it Is Even More Urgent to Fight for 9/11 Truth
If we are not currently under martial law, it is even more important to fight for 9/11 truth.
Why?
Because the state of emergency declared by the Bush administration on 9/11 and continued until the present was based on the 9/11 attacks. If we can prove that the government aided and abetted the 9/11 attacks, maybe that state of emergency can finally be rescinded, with the realization that the danger from rogue elements of our own government is greater than that from abroad.

Emergency supplement budget request
I posted this last night on some other post but I didn't want you to miss it GW.
Yesterday I watched the Congressional hearing on the budget request for the Iraq war. In every hearing I've watched for funding the Iraq war, they always ask for an emergency supplement budget request. And in every hearing, the members of Congress ask, "why are you using the the emergency supplemental budget request rather than they normal budget procedure". They never have a good answer for it. But, considering the issues being discussed here regarding whether or not COG is still in effect, yesterday's hearing was - I believe most revealing and puts the weight of the evidence on GeorgeWashington's side.
Several senators questioned the 'emergency funding' but Senator Gregg Judd, pinned Jim Nussle down on the issue of the word 'emergency'. He got Nussle to say that he doesn't need the word emergency in the supplemental request. But Nussle is dumb as box of rocks and I'll bet anything that his handlers in the administration had fits about it.
I believe they are using the emergency war supplemental funding because the nation is in a state of emergency just as GEORGEWASHINGTON believes. The hearing is listed on C-Span's front page, recent programs, title: Senate Appropriations Committee Hearing on FY 2008 War Supplemental

And at the point they can't get emergency supplemental funding for war ... the jigs up. They can no longer operate outside constitutional controls and congressional oversight.

If Obama Wins In November......
I know some here are no doubt dismissive of Obama as being just another "inside the betlway insider", but I have some hope for the country if he is elected.
I wonder what the Bush/Cheney cabal might due in those two months before 1/20/09 to prevent him from becoming president. A possibility would be another false flag op that would be their window to seize power indefinitely, maybe that has already happened, we just don't know it yet.
My perspective is nearly the opposite of yours
Obama is about as much an insider as a relative newcomer to Washington can be. Rather than use his Senatorial office to obstruct U.S. aggression against the Iraqi people (much less the Afghans), he ducks key votes and says nothing volatile on the Senate floor. During his presidential campaign he's even told an AIPAC dinner that we ought to seriously look into (widening U.S. and Israeli aggression in the region by) going to war against Iran.
I know many people posting here suspect Bush is going to declare his emergency powers late in his term (presumably triggered by yet another major false flag event), cancel the elections, and become dictator-for-life or some such thing. While that can hardly be ruled out, that's a wildly risky strategy, which Bush's bosses and handlers know. (It would too threaten to rouse the slumbering sheeple.)
I think the likelier scenario is to pull off another false flag event timed so that the new president -- probably Obama -- has an excuse to drop his limp pose as a war opponent and launch an expansion of imperial wars. It could happen during the interim period between the presidential election and the inauguration. Or it could be in the early months of the new presidential term, as happened with Little Bush.
Indeed, the timing of 9/11 -- about 8 months into Little Bush's presidency -- may have been carefully plotted at some level, to help set the new president on a course that would characterize the remainder of his term. It's not as though Bill Clinton wouldn't have been up for a 9/11-type event, but, late in his term, his reputation exhausted with the Kosovo business (which was instigated to weaken the Serbian nation, a traditional ally of the Russians, the supposed humanitarian need to protect the ethnically Albanian Kosovars being simply an elaborate cover story) and impeachment proceedings, a relatively untarnished fresh face was needed to get the 9/11 ball rolling and keep it rolling.
What I suspect the bad guys are scheming now is to bring in another fresh face -- better yet, one associated in the public's mind as not militarily bellicose -- to lead a new round of aggression. Moreover, the Democratic Establishment, which has cooperated with all these schemes under a Republican president, now expects its big turn at the trough to cash in on all the military-industrial, Zionist, and oil payoffs that come with invasions and occupations of Muslim nations.

The above is admitedly a more likely outcome, but I would question whether the tension at the top is as well-defined and highly tuned as you suggest? I've become convinced, through reading Tarpley's viewpoint on pg. 8 of this linked issue, "The Rock Creek Press", there are separate factions struggling for power--some more openly fascist than others. One faction might renege on another? I suggest the behind-the-scenes politics is that treacherous.
Again, I must admit the merits of your point of view, McFrandy, that it is a more likely outcome. I would also counter the psychopaths at the top like to strike out at those who oppose them--even if they are citizens in a U.S. city.! I submit it's plausible they'll follow a typical M.O. of coupling items on their agenda, i.e., bomb an internal foe in a false flag op and blame it, this time around, on Iran to further their Middle East domination project.
Also, you cannot forget all the fear-mongering of Cheney and Chertoff and more recently, Bush, their repeated fears of terrorist strikes one warning about a nuclear terrorist event in a major U.S. city.
This is the kind of discussion required this year. I believe, if we make them highly visible possibilities in public discourse, it actually helps deter these very actions by those who would perpetrate them. It's simply a case that the publc won't be fooled again and the perps harbor doubts they can get away with it. It's really that simple.
In the end, it may only defer these events but every effort must be made to stop them.

If Sen. Obama is the "real deal" and wins, and
he doesn't have his own moles in the military and intelligence services to protect him ( I'm not taking bets on this, btw), then he will get the Kennedy (3 times), King, X and, more recently, Wellstone treatment.
For his family's sake I hope he loses to Sen. Clinton and lets the Clinton family get busted for treason.

Quite frankly, I think when Pelosi was first anointed, she came out from a meeting with the WH, and
thusly proclaimed that impeachment was off the table ... that was very telling. They most likely sat
her down and filled her in that the US is still under the National Emergency Act, and anything she
may try would be moot, as well, subject to retribution by the WH and DHS.

I read yet another article this morning saying that the Fed is the lender of last resort in the US. That is not true, not anymore. The Fed’s plans, announced last week, that will see it borrow from the Treasury to keep its reserves above water, mean that the American taxpayer is now the lender of last resort. I don’t want to become a bore and repeat myself all the time, but this I will say again and again until it’s clear to everybody. A teutonic shift has taken place, and hardly a soul has noticed. That worries me.

It wouldn't surprise me. Bernanke did say that he would do whatever it takes to keep the banks open because it was the closing of the banks in the 1929 depression that inhibited the economy from recovering. That's my understanding of his position anyway - and it's possible I'm wrong.
I'm not sure we are capable of feeling teutonic shifts at this point. We've had so many. It has been my observation that all solutions they offer only make things worse because they are refusing to address the real problem. Globalization as a concept is a miserable failure. The 'free market' reforms (Structural Adjustment Programs) that they pushed on every country in the world has created a global economy that only works for about 200 multinational corporations - and perhaps 10,000 or so of the richest people in the world.
The Structural Adjustment Programs demanded that countries reorient their economies to be exporting economies, to deregulate all commercial activity and to privatize all government functions. What this has done is basically drained domestic economies of money and resources making it impossible for them to pay for imports. When the economies grind to a halt, the government collapses and people being to starve. We aren't there yet - but we're on the road.

Amy Goodman has had 7 years to address the subject of 9-11 but she completely ignored it. I'm highly suspicious of all this sudden interest from the left - coincidental to this work of fiction on 9-11 (Shell Game) that promotes the idea of Peak Oil. Peak Oil is part of the 'sustainable development' propaganda campaign for United Nations Agenda 21 which is the social engineering plan of the NWO for a centrally planned and managed totalitarian, One World Government. The whole environmental agenda is war by other means. If you can't kill the economy by so-called 'free trade' (giving away and selling U.S. domestic businesses), then you can bankrupt the country by mandating costly changes (freon, low-flush toilets, mercury-laden outrageously expensive light bulbs, and a change over of the grid to DC) to "fight global warming". Global warming is a political agenda - not an environmental agenda.
Perhaps the SPP aka NAU is another indication of the matrix
There has been much speculation about the SPP meetings held annually where the US, CA, and MX entered into agreement on many issues of integration and harmonization of policies for military, trade, standards, etc.. Many people, such as myself, understand this movement as the first steps to NAU, similar to the EU to create a continental consolidation towards a One World Government.
Again, many citizens objected to this move without being reviewed or addressed by Congress or citizens taxpayers of US. Since you brought the issue of COG up, the idea that the WH is following thru with this plan, makes even more sense that COG is was never rescinded and we are still in a state of emergency. Since Congress has to sign off on any treaties as opposed to any trade agreements.
