Iran: '9/11 an excuse for U.S. invasions' (CNN)

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad cast doubt over the United States' version of the September 11 attacks on Wednesday, calling them a pretext used to invade Afghanistan and Iraq.
"President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has again publicly questioned the reality of the 9/11 attacks."
Although Iran has condemned the 2001 al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington in the past, this was the third time in a week that Ahmadinejad questioned the death toll, who was behind the attacks and how it happened.
"Four or five years ago, a suspicious event occurred in New York. A building collapsed and they said that 3,000 people had been killed but never published their names," Ahmadinejad told Iranians in the holy city of Qom.
Under this pretext, the U.S. "attacked Afghanistan and Iraq and since then a million people have been killed only in Iraq," Ahmadinejad said in the speech broadcast live on state-run television.
On the last anniversary of the attacks, the names of 2,750 victims killed in New York were read aloud at a memorial ceremony.

In Washington, the State Department rejected the comments out of hand, calling them "another example of misinformed, misguided rhetoric" from the Iranian leader.
"I am not sure what one says about a statement like that," spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.
"It leaves one speechless. It is misguided, misinformed rhetoric. I can't tell you whether or not it is something he truly believes or if this is just a warped attempt to try to shape public opinion in Iran or elsewhere."
Last year, Ahmadinejad raised questions over the attacks, saying "what caused it, what were the conditions that led to it, who truly was involved" needed to be examined.
Ahmadinejad has said the attacks were a result of "mismanaging and inhumane managing of the world by the U.S." and should not be turned into another Holocaust "used for slaughtering people."
Although Iran has condemned the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, the campaigns toppled the Taliban and Saddam Hussein, two regional threats to Iran. E-mail to a friend

Ahmadinejad certainly has ground to question but I mean come on man, you need to look before you leap. His credibility is already suspect, this just adds to it. Why aren't his advisers or someone correcting him and showing him the published list? Plus there are many more anomalies he should be addressing than how many people died, that is kind of beside the point.

Ofcourse I am speculating but on the face of it with all the info regarding 9/11 in the Arab world and in western media he chooses that the names of the dead were never released??? Seems as though someone has got to him. Perhaps he will be spared when Iran is attacked.

Ahmadinejad may have tried to say, or may have said, something relating to the following:
A building (WTC-7, not hit by a plane) did collapse in a controlled demolition. The names (and pictures) of at least 6 or 7 of the 19 "hijackers" belong to people who are alive & well.

I may just be alarmist on the topic, but I feel much the same as Knowar! People deny the possibility that there are sick perverse people running our government, who possess the depravity and gall to foist such a 9/11-2b event on its citizens! They just haven't been paying attention.
I also believe there is such paranoia about their misconduct our government feels the need to do something to us before we do something to them. It's down to that level at this point.

This has to be one of the most transparent attempts to smear the 9/11 truth movement since they tried to stick us with holocaust denial and antisemitism in January of 2007.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here on Wednesday said the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq under the pretext of September 11 terror attack.
Addressing a large group of local residents of this central city, he said over one million people have so far been killed in the occupied Iraq and tens of thousands of civilians have been massacred in Afghanistan after US forces invaded the two countries.
Over one billion people throughout the globe are living in complete poverty, he said adding that more than 100 million people were killed in the course of conflicts raged by the arrogant power in the 20th century.
President Ahmadinejad said that the global arrogance and its hegemonic objectives are the root cause of all human calamities.
He further underscored the need for administration of justice throughout the globe.
Ahmadinejad, heading a delegation, arrived in the holy city of Qom this morning.
During his two-day stay in the province, the chief executive is scheduled to meet provincial war veterans and martyrs families and attend sessions of various working groups.
He would also inaugurate several development projects in different parts of the province.
