U.S. Secretly Met With Followers of Blind Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman Before Controversial Visa Application
Followers of Omar Abdel Rahman made overtures to U.S. diplomats one year before the radical sheikh entered the United States on a visa approved by a CIA agent.
During several meetings with diplomatic officers at the U.S. embassy in Cairo, members of al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya (The Islamic Group) provided extensive details about the operations of one of Egypt's most notorious terrorist organizations.
Initiated by al-Gama'a, the meetings were aimed at creating a dialogue with the U.S. in the hopes of eventual, unspecified cooperation. The initiative was based on a perception that the U.S. enjoyed similar cooperation with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
Less than four years after the approach, an al-Gama'a terror cell led personally by Abdel-Rahman bombed the World Trade Center in New York City.

This confirms *again* that the first (26 Feb 1993) World Trade Center bomb attack was an Inside Job.
Following the reported meetings in Egypt between Islamic Jihad and the United States Embassy in Cairo, referenced by the above April 25 1989 US embassy cablegram, blind cleric Omar Abdel Rahman obtained a visa to enter the United States.

Less than eight years prior to the reported clandestine meetings between US Embassy officials and Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the Egyptian group, guided by blind cleric Omar Abdel Rahman, were implicated in Egyptian President Sadat's assassination 6 October 1981.
President Sadat's assassination was carried out by members of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad organization who had infiltrated the Egyptian Army.

The visa was issued by the U.S. embassy in Khartoum, Sudan in May 1990.(Time Magazine, May. 24, 1993).
After the Feb 1993 WTC attack, US embassy officials said that Rahman's visa was issued in error and began an investigation of the embassy official who approved the passport. That official turned out to be an officer of the CIA.
According to the New York Times, the CIA officer was working as a consular official as part of his cover and did not act on behalf of the CIA. US officials described the event as a "coincidence".

In October 1996, the blind cleric Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, who preached at mosques in Brooklyn and Jersey City, and whose group is believed to have had links to Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network, was sentenced to life imprisonment for masterminding the WTC bombing.
Six people were killed. At least 1,040 others were injured. The towers were not destroyed as intended. However, the WTC’s architect would later tell jurors that if the van had been left closer to the poured concrete foundations, the plan would have succeeded and the tower would have toppled. The plan for the 1993 attacks was to topple one tower aganst the second.
In the course of the trial it was revealed that the FBI had an informant, a former Egyptian army officer named Emad A. Salem. Salem claimed that he informed the FBI of the plot to bomb the towers as early as February 6, 1992.
Salem, initially believing that this was to be a sting operation, claimed that the FBI's original plan was for Salem to supply the conspirators with a harmless powder instead of actual explosives to build their bomb. To protect himself, Salam secretly recorded hundreds of hours of telephone conversations with his FBI handlers. (New York Times, Oct. 28, 1993, section A,Page 1).
In December 1993, James M. Fox, the head of the FBI's New York Office, denied that the FBI had any foreknowledge of the WTC attacks.

Interesting that the WTC's architect lied about the 'terrorists' intentions.

This was part of the myth/cover-up, because it was not their intention to bring down the towers. They didn't even park under the Towers. They parked under the Vista Hotel which was to the north of WTC 2 and west of WTC 1.
They did parked on top of the chiller system and some of the major power supply equipment for the entire complex.
There was no danger of the Twin Towers falling, that was not their intention. It seems their intention was to knock out the power and AC systems for the complex, which then gave them the excuse to do major renovations. Plus, they learned exactly how much damage, x amount of explosives would cause down in the sublevels. 1993 was more like a mini test for 2001.
