Zawahiri mocks Bush in video message on Iraq, Somalia

Al-Qaeda's second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, defiantly mocked US President George W. Bush's plan to send extra troops to Iraq, saying he should send his entire army to be annihilated.
In an online video message, Osama bin Laden's deputy also accused the United States of being behind the deployment of Ethiopian troops in Somalia and vowed that Islamist forces would "break the back" of the Ethiopians.
"Don't you know that the dogs of Iraq are impatient to devour the carcasses of your soldiers?

"On the contrary, you must send your entire army to be annihilated at the hands of the mujahedin so that the whole world will be rid of your wickedness."

Bush announced on January 10 that he would send an additional 21,500 troops to Iraq, in a bid to quell deadly sectarian violence in the war-wracked country.

The US president has waged an aggressive public relations campaign over the past week to warn against pulling out of Iraq hastily, and Iraq is expected to be the focus of his annual State of the Union speech on Tuesday.

But Zawahiri repeatedly poked fun at Bush's plan for Iraq, as well as the US-led mission to rid Afghanistan of remnants of the extremist Taliban movement.

"Iraq, the country of the caliphate and of jihad, is capable of being a tomb for 10 of your armies," he said.

"It is Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, led by the emir of the believers, Mullah Mohammed Omar (may God save him), who have deprived the Americans of a safe haven in Afghanistan.

"Security must be shared: if we are safe, you will be too ... If we are hit and killed, you will inescapably be hit and killed," the Al-Qaeda official said.

"Today, the duty of every Muslim is to bear arms or to support and serve those who bear the arms."

Zawahiri also lashed out at Bush over the conflict in Somalia, saying Islamist fighters would "break the back" of Ethiopian forces backing government troops in the Horn of Africa nation.

"I announce the good news to Bush: he has bogged down his Ethiopian slaves in a real disaster in Somalia. The Mujahedin will break their back," Zawahiri said.

"The Americans, who encouraged them on to their ruin and are giving them orders from afar so that they die in their place, will not even shed tears for them."

In a previous message put online on January 5, Zawahiri called on the Somali Islamists to be inspired by guerrilla actions in Iraq and Afghanistan to fight the Ethiopian forces in Somalia.

The Pentagon said last week that US operations in Somalia would continue until key Al-Qaeda targets were eliminated.

Quite telling how this staged b.s. propaganda is released a

day before the State of the Union Address to boost the Chimp!

What a Joke

New Joke Same as the Old Joke

Wake up America.... Come on people if you are going to wake up please do it soon before I lose it.

Bush needs to beat Kerry in the 2004 election.... desperately needing all swing votes..... oh wait.... here comes a tape... the enemy is speaking to us... what?
What did the enemy ,who we hate and want to depserately kill, just tell us to do???
Vote for Kerry?
Well I ain't going to listen to that Arab!
I'm votin' for BUSH!

This happens over and over again.... every time a tape comes out you simply need to look at the exact opposite of what the enemy wants you to think and see who's pushing that agenda to see who is really behind the message.

BUSH is desperately trying to get support for his surge..... so the enemy taunts us.... calls us out!

This shit is so grade school....and yet there are still ignorant people falling for it....

propoganda induced reverse psychology.

Right before the State of the Union

Could you be more blatently obvious? I wonder how much they pay this guy.... LAME

Ignorance is NOT Bliss

But you have to admit...

These folks are very good at this. Give them credit for perfecting a dark art.

But how could they have recruited Zawahiri? Is Zawahiri a CIA operative? If so, wow.

This fellow Zawahiri was in Egyptian prison for quite a long time, and tortured there I have read, as part of the Muslim Brotherhood. He can't be happy with Egypt's US masters. I am really wondering how he would come to serve US interests so well now? You'd think he'd be against current US policy, not for it.

Or is this not Zawahiri on the video?

Did They?

Did they torture him?... or did they tell you that they tortured him?

Did they torture him like the Koreans tortured John McCain?

It's a great story.... isn't it?

Ignorance is NOT Bliss

At this point...

I have no way to evaluate with certainty what I read. Who knows? We can all see that news is manipulated.

I read Zawahiri's story in a book about modern Islam -- and I forget the title and author, sorry.

The Muslim Brotherhood, according to this book at least, was at first a benign group attempting to uplift Egyptian society back then -- education, health care, and so on. But the authorities at the time -- and it may have been with Nasser at the helm? Maybe Sadat? just crushed the organization. That was what radicalized it. Ayman Zawahiri as a member of the Brotherhood was caught in the crushing of it, according to that account.

Again, how could he later join in with the CIA? It is very confusing.

Ignorance is NOT Bliss

Zawahiri doesn't have to be

Zawahiri doesn't have to be a CIA agent, for the appearance of this video to be a manipulation. He's probably the genuine article. What matters more is:

(a) the video's release, like that of many others, coincides with political opportunity for the MIC (I suppose this one is meant to coincide with the state of the union address)

(b) the way in which the video distorts the asymmetry of power involved; that is, people think Zawahiri is a power broker in the same sense Bush is (he's not, but he is obviously effective at guerrilla warfare and propaganda); also, the video helps shape a story Bush is trying to tell, in which these "evil barbarians" are taunting his just reign of nobility from across the pond

Notice also that this video, like the last important Al Qaeda video, comes from that group SITE Institute, whoever they are. At least ABC had the guts to note that the video's provenance could not be determined.

May not be CIA

but there is definitely something going on.... every time they need a tape.... they get it and it's always spot on point

the guy could be a pawn for Saudi Arabia or Isreal... who knows.... maybe we are being played by some other country who is interested in using us for their own means???

It's all very convenient

Bet Bush is going to have plenty to talk about now.... watch how he milks this one.

think he'll remember what the speech is called this year?

OK George... remember it this way.... just think United States.... OK?.... United States.... State of the Union

Ignorance is NOT Bliss

You're probably right. It's

You're probably right. It's just my limited imagination that prevents me from seeing how all of this works.

It's possible that one form of manipulation involves sitting on tapes until opportune moments. That is, maybe some of these tapes are legit, but the Pentagon waits a few days or weeks to release them at just the right moment.

Until someone can trace the chain of custody for these tapes, I don't trust them (even if I can't explain exactly why).

More timed propaganda

This story was just published by Reuters. OK, this is definitely meant to coincide with the SOTU. Note how this story implies that being in Iraq thwarted another 9/11-type attack:

"WASHINGTON, Jan 22 (Reuters) - The former Al Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, once planned to send militants to the United States on student visas to carry out attacks on U.S. soil, officials said on Monday.

But the plot, which came to light during a raid on an al Qaeda safe house in Iraq early last year, never got off the ground and Zarqawi was killed later in an attack by U.S. forces, officials said."

Funny how they waited almost a year to release this news.

If they had planned anything

Our people would not have stopped it...... The threat is created.

If there were people trying to hurt us on our soil... it would have happened 100 times since 9/11

for every one they would have stopped 10 more would have happened

You think that car bombs are easier to make in Iraq than in the US?

this is not rocket science

they were so sophisticated on 9/11.... but not one time since????

NOT ONCE!...except on 7/7 in London? *wink*

An interesting note from the gulfnews.com article

Al Zawahiri's comments were published on the Web site of the US-based SITE institute, www.siteinstitute.org, which searches and analyses militant networks. It said the video was broadcast on Al Qaida's multimedia arm As-Sahab, which it monitors.

It was said to be in SITE's hands before getting online even, and SITE won't say how they "intercepted" the video.

I Wonder

LOL.... they proably just popped the tape out of their camcorder

Ignorance is NOT Bliss

glad they monitor it!

As opposed to destroying it. I guess if they destroyed al-Qaeda's video-producing arm they'd have to produce their OWN terrorist videos. Now that's a novel concept! Why didn't they think of it before! Produce your very own terrorist videos! What a way to catapult the propaganda!
