Quick Note on Fund Raiser for First Responders

I just wanted to post a quick note of support for the fund raiser that Jon Gold has been putting together. This fund raiser is based on nothing but good intentions and a desire to try to help out those directly affected by the tragedy of 9/11. I intend to post something more formal about the fund raiser soon, but in the mean time I would encourage people to chip in a few bucks, and I hope that other 9/11 sites will join in this effort once we have something a bit more formal put together.

If You Want Something Done Right...

I would like to contribute, but you haven't persuaded me.

I just don't feel compelled to give money to this cause. I need to get more information about how it will help. How will the money be used?

This is a very important

This is a very important question. I've already donated some money, and I trust Jon Gold -- but I have reserved giving exceedingly because I do not know WHO it will go to or HOW it will be used. I think these questions must be answered in order for us to give with confidence and convince others to as well. There is such a thing as making your money count -- that is, getting bang for your buck. There are both effective and ineffective ways of utilizing capital, and I think an argument should be put forth as to why the money collected will be used effectively.

WHO? HOW? EFFECTIVE?

The money will be split evenly...

Between...

The FealGood Foundation (John Feal)
John gives money to first responders when they need it. People who have a hard time living month to month, etc... If you need $100, he gives it to you.

Heroes Helping Heroes
I'm not so sure about this organization. John tells me that they are mostly about trying to get legislation passed, rather than focus on helping the responders.

A new group with Les Jamieson on the board
Don't know a thing about this yet.

And... after reading this today, maybe them as well.

The money will be used by the organizations I mentioned. I can't control what they do with it. I'm hoping of course, that it will be used for good. I know that will be the case with John Feal, and Les' new group.

How effective is giving money to the people/organizations that need it? Obviously the more money you give, the more effective it is.

FealGood Foundation WHO WE

FealGood Foundation
WHO WE ARE
The primary mission of the FealGood Foundation, a non-profit organization, is to spread awareness and educate the public about the catastrophic health effects on 9/11 first responders, as well as to provide assistance to relieve these great heroes of the financial burdens placed on them over the last five years. A secondary goal of our Foundation is to create a network of advocacy on 9/11 healthcare issues. We not only advocate for Ground Zero workers, but show others how they can advocate for themselves and help others through grassroots activism.

Heroes Helping Heroes
Unsung Heroes Helping Heroes is an organization of Rescue and Recovery workers dedicated to bringing about fairness and justice to disaster response workers, community residents and employees.
