Relics, Artifacts and Memories: A Year Spent With World Trade Center Steel

Relics, Artifacts and Memories: A Year Spent With World Trade Center Steel
Truthout, Amanda Lin Costa, September 11, 2011

I didn’t set off to become an expert in World Trade Center (WTC) steel but recently it occurred to me I was becoming one. The thought first dawned on me about a month ago, after I spent the day filming at The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of a documentary I have been working on about WTC steel.

I spent hours with Stephen W. Banovic, a materials research scientist in the Metallurgy Division of the Materials Science and Engineering Laboratory at NIST, and Michael E. Newman, senior communications officer at NIST. Both men had spent more than six years of their lives living and breathing the WTC steel during the intensive investigation into the collapse of the Twin Towers.

CIA threatening Duffy & Nowosielski with federal prosecution

Secrecy Kills, September 11, 2011

Apparently, things have taken a turn towards the surreal, as the CIA attempts to block documentary film makers Duffy & Nowosielski from publishing their investigative research with legal threats. I quote:

"On Thursday, the CIA threatened the journalists behind Who Is Rich Blee? with possible federal prosecution if the investigative podcast is released in its current form."

"We are delaying that release while we consult with others and weigh our options. A press statement with a more complete explanation will be made available at this site soon."

I am unable to locate the Richard Clarke interview on Youtube at this time, save for Jon Gold's channel. See here for a direct link with a time jump to the fragment in question.

New Court Filing Reveals How the 2004 Ohio Presidential Election Was Hacked

New Court Filing Reveals How the 2004 Ohio Presidential Election Was Hacked
Truthout, Bob Fritakis, July 25, 2011

A new filing in the King Lincoln Bronzeville v. Blackwell case includes a copy of the Ohio Secretary of State election production system configuration that was in use in Ohio's 2004 presidential election when there was a sudden and unexpected shift in votes for George W. Bush.

The filing also includes the revealing deposition of the late Michael Connell. Connell served as the IT guru for the Bush family and Karl Rove. Connell ran the private IT firm GovTech that created the controversial system that transferred Ohio's vote count late on election night 2004 to a partisan Republican server site in Chattanooga, Tennessee owned by SmarTech. That is when the vote shift happened, not predicted by the exit polls, that led to Bush's unexpected victory. Connell died a month and a half after giving this deposition in a suspicious small plane crash.

Additionally, the filing contains the contract signed between then-Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell and Connell's company, GovTech Solutions. Also included that contract a graphic architectural map of the Secretary of State's election night server layout system.

Cliff Arnebeck, lead attorney in the King Lincoln case, exchanged emails with IT security expert Stephen Spoonamore. Arnebeck asked Spoonamore whether or not SmarTech had the capability to "input data" and thus alter the results of Ohio's 2004 election. Spoonamore responded: "Yes. They would have had data input capacities. The system might have been set up to log which source generated the data but probably did not."

Spoonamore explained that "they [SmarTech] have full access and could change things when and if they want."

The Spy Who Hated Wikileaks

Richard Dearlove is the former head of the British foreign intelligence service. This is the intelligence department dramatized in James Bond films, and Dearlove could be described as the "real version" of "M" although in actuality the head of MI6 is referred to as "C".[1]

In July 2002, Dearlove reportedly said that "intelligence was being fixed around the policy", in reference to the run-up to the Iraq War.[2] The source for this remarkable observation is the now infamous "Downing Street Memo".

Dearlove recently held a talk at Cambridge, and insisted no recordings were to be made. Topic of the talk was "principally in relation to Wikileaks". In yet another twist of beautiful irony, the presentation was leaked.

Please do not assume this video to remain on Youtube.[3] Send it far and wide.

'Curveball' admits he lied about Iraqi WMD; Wilkerson implicates Bush and Cheney

Cheney’s office misled Colin Powell on Iraq threat, former aide says
The Raw Story, February 19, 2011

Lawrence Wilkerson, the former chief of staff of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, said Friday that former vice president Dick Cheney’s office misled his old boss with bogus information to sell the Iraq War to the American people. This talk with MSNBC’s Cenk Uygur Friday came in the wake of Iraqi defector Rafid Ahmed Alwan Al-Janabi nicknamed “Curveball” admitting he lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

(AINA) -- The car explosion that went off in front of Saints Coptic Orthodox Church in Alexandria killed 21 and injured 96 parishioners who were attending a New Year's Eve Mass. According to church officials and eyewitnesses, there are many more victims that are still unidentified and whose body parts were strewn all over the street outside the church. The body parts were covered with newspapers until they were brought inside the church after some Muslims started stepping on them and chanting Jihadi chants (video showing dead bodies and limbs covered with newspapers in the street).

Military staffer knew about attacks: report

A Swedish Armed Forces (Försvarsmakten) employee warned an acquaintance to stay clear of an area in central Stockholm on Saturday where, several hours later, two explosions went off in what is being called a terrorist attack.

“If you can, avoid Drottninggatan today. A lot can happen there…just so you know,” the message said, according to the TT news agency.

Armed Forces spokesperson Jonas Svensson told TT on Sunday he was unaware of the message.

“I haven’t heard about this at all. Now I’m going to check out the information,” he told TT when confronted with the news.

Later the Swedish military said it was now “preparing how the issue will be dealt with”.

NIST WTC 7 FAQ alterations revealed

Initial discovery

On NIST’s current WTC 7 FAQ page, the headline reads: (emphasis mine)

Questions and Answers about the NIST WTC 7 Investigation (Updated 09/17/2010) [1]

In order to preempt further alterations, I cached this version.[2] When I noticed the date of the update, I first tried to look for previous versions of the FAQ in the Wayback Machine.[3]

I was in for a disappointment: previous versions of the page had curiously vanished from the archive. Normally this means game over: there are no cached versions. To my knowledge, there is no alternative for the Wayback Machine. I tried to look for alternatives nonetheless.

Google News created in response to 9/11

"Google News Creator Watches Portal Quiet Critics With 'Best News' Webby"
Online Journalism Review, Staci D. Kramer, September 25, 2003

I stumbled upon this article from September 2003. In it, Google News creator Krishna Bharat shares his memories of how his creation came into being. Apparently, it was created in response to the avalanche of news reports after 9/11, in an effort to classify and organize the information flow. He also feels that in a world of turmoil, Google News might be democracy's saving grace. The free flow of information is, indeed, one of many necessary safety valves in a democracy.

However well intended Bharat's ideals may be, his employer already has a checkered past in the realm of censorship, surveillance and reckless disregard for privacy, to put it diplomatically. At one time, Mr. Bharat claims that "this is code that is set down and is on the public record." I don't quite understand this claim, and I don't think Google ever released the code for Google News to the public, let alone by 2003.

I've excerpted a few passages, read the full article at the source link. Emphasis in excerpts mine.

The False Dilemma Fallacy

A well known, and often committed, logical fallacy is the false dilemma.[1] When you consider two variables (US Government, Al Qaeda), you have the following, logically possible options:

  US Government Al Qaeda
Involvement in 9/11
  x
x
x x

That's four possibilities, not "either the US did it, or Al Qaeda did it". As you'll note, "neither" and "both" are also options.

What happens when we add Israel, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan?

Dick Cheney: 'frail-looking', comments on 9/11, upcoming book

"Business Conference: Lynne Cheney 'interviews' Dick Cheney"
The Bakersfield Californian, Steven Mayer, October 9, 2010

"But Cheney is writing a book, and he allowed that the answer to that question might someday appear in print.

Cheney was just 34 when he became chief of staff in the Ford White House. Every president, he said, brought his own set of experiences and priorities to the job.

His proudest accomplishment came because of something that didn't happen: The nation did not suffer another devastating terrorist attack in the years following Sept. 11.

His greatest fear? A nuclear weapon in the hands of a terrorist.

"We came to the point that we could no longer treat terrorist attacks as a simple law enforcement problem," he told the appreciative crowd. "They were an act of war."
