Ashcroft Stopped Flying Right After CIA Warning
A post at Daily Kos points out that former Attorney General John Ashcroft stopped flying commercial airplanes immediately after receiving the warning of an imminent attack from CIA director George Tenet.
"The White House is in full panic mode trying to find a way to spin the now-admitted fact that George Tenet did indeed brief Condi Rice on July 10, 2001 about the terror threat. The latest damage control approach has been to claim that the report was "nothing new".
So how come when then-Attorney General John Ashcroft heard the same warning a week later, he immediately stopped flying commercial aircraft?

Seems to me this could be another blockbuster. If Ashcroft decided that commercial flights were too dangerous based on the same warning as Rice (who presumably wasn't flying commercial flights either) ignored, we have ourselves some rather dramatic
evidence ...."

My wife and I traveled to Washington , D.C. on the 3rd of September, before the 17th -- before the 11th attack, on commercial aircraft. I have exclusively traveled on commercial aircraft for my personal travel, continued through the year 2000, through the entirety of the threat period to the nation."
Ashcroft slipped up in his testimony, mentioning the date on which he was briefed, instead of 9/11.

It's especially interesting to read in light of the news regarding the Tenet briefings. Evidently, Ashcroft took the warnings a little more seriously than some.
Well...
Personally, I think the testimony of a man who lost an election to a dead man isn't the most trustworthy.
He had no reason to tell the truth because "it was abundantly clear that there would be no repercussions for any misrepresentations."

Yes, but
they're having a hard time figuring out exactly WHAT the official story is now. Their "commandments" regarding the 9/11 fable only deal with their professed faith in Osama and the boxcutter boys -- they don't really know what to do with things like "Condoleeza knew way, way more than she let on, and the Commission helped cover everything up."

why is getting attention
why is getting attention now. it was reported ages ago. and why has it only be discovered tenet gave briefing to rice now. why has it taken so long. this means the bush administration had foreknowledge and condi a liar. so this is very big news.

I would also like to add the following not-so-minor detail: If Condi says there was "nothing new" in that report, or, as she told the 9/11 Commission, nothing of substance in any subsequent report, then how come she considered it worthwhile to call Mayor Willie Brown of San Francisco on September 10, 2001, and warn him not to fly on September 11?
That's a pretty specific target date for someone who supposedly knew nothing specific or new.
