October 1, 2017 (9:29pm-9:33pm), Mandalay Bay Hotel: Implications of Las Vegas Shooter’s Recorded Hotel Room Door Lock Activity

Door lock interrogations of rooms 32-134 and 32-135 of the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, then assigned to accused shooter Stephen Paddock, performed subsequent to the mass casualty shooting event at the Las Vegas Village, Route 91 Harvest Festival of October 1, 2017, are assessed here. Door lock event times and descriptions are presented here as provided within the LVMPD’s post event report “LVMPD Criminal Investigative Report of the 1 October Mass Casualty Shooting”.

According to the said LVMPD post event report, "No evidence exists to indicate Paddock conspired with or acted in collusion with anyone else." With a room key user possessing Paddock’s room key, apparently in the hallway outside of Paddock’s cited rooms between 9:31pm and 9:33pm (32 minutes before the shooting began) and with no apparent evidence of entry into either of these two adjoining rooms by a key user between the same 9:31pm to 9:33pm period, who opened the door to room 32-135 at 9:33pm from the inside?

Because the recorded event times are not more specific than increments of minutes, it is impossible to know which 9:29pm door events take place first - room 32-134 or room 32-135. The 9:29pm sequence of events (#1 - #5 and #6 - #9) at rooms 32-134 and 32-135 are interchangeable, without affecting the outcome that unfolds during events #10 - #16. A copy of the said report is linked at the bottom of this review. A room schematic is embedded at the bottom of this review.

4.) [32-134] 9:29pm: Guest Card accepted
5.) [32-134] 9:29pm: The door is closed

A key user is now apparently in the hallway, in order for a key reading error to occur at room 32-134 at 9:31pm, as will be shown. The key user cannot now be inside 32-135, as the next event in the chronological series of recorded door lock events occurs outside of room 32-134.

11.) [32-134] 9:31pm: Guest Card accepted

13.) [32-134] 9:31pm: The door is closed

A key user is now apparently in the hallway at 9:31pm, in order for the next events in the chronological series of recorded door lock events to have occurred - two failed attempts by a key user to enter room 32-135 at 9:32pm, as will be shown. Between 9:31pm and 9:32pm, there is no evidence of any successful key entry attempts into 32-134.

With room 32-134 locked at 9:31pm and not re-opened until 9:34pm from the outside and with two failed key entry attempts occurring at room 32-135 at 9:32pm, a key user is now apparently in the hallway when door 32-135 is opened at 9:33pm from inside, as will be shown.

16.) [32-135] 9:33pm: The door is opened from the inside

With a key user possessing Paddock’s room key, apparently in the hallway between 9:31pm and 9:33pm and with no evidence of entry into either room by a key user between 9:31pm and 9:33pm, who opened room 32-135 from inside at 9:33pm?
