Thanks to all who attended and participated at our meeting on the Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act on Sunday at St. Marks Church. It was a very informative and stimulating event. As we should always try to do with information, we propose turning it into action.

First, we should all call Harry Reid's office at (202) 224-3542 to urge him to prevent him from allowing the bill to get to the floor.

In her most recent book, Getting a Grip: Creating Clarity and Courage in a World Gone Mad, Frances Moore Lappé offers an enlightening statistic. A century ago, the native population of India outnumbered the British civil servants ruling them by a ratio of 300,000 to one. It wasn't until Gandhi awakened the people of India from the trance of powerlessness that they were able to organize and become an independent state.

We Americans are in a trance of powerlessness as well, but it is even more insidious. Here we have the right to vote, the right to speak out, the right to petition -- and we even have a founding document that tells us that we have the right to overrule our rulers when they go astray -- yet we the people seem to have silently resigned ourselves to being ruled by "they the very, very few people." Our job? Shut up and go shopping.

History Commons Project, Update for Week Ending December 1, 2007

Several new entries have been added to the History Commons, in particular the Decision to Invade Iraq and 9/11 projects.

New entries to the 9/11 Timeline focus on a number of topics. On the Day of 9/11, air defense staff were absent from the command center because they were meeting visiting business leaders, and the two planes that hit the WTC almost crashed into each other at one point. Other entries follow on from last week's claim by al-Qaeda Luai Sakra that Nawaf Alhazmi flew one of the hijacked planes by looking more closely at his pilot-related activities. Finally, Saudi Arabian security advisor Prince Bandar Bandar Bush recently said Saudi authorities were following most of the 9/11 hijackers with precision before the attacks.

Feds probe Sept. 11 insurance fund

WASHINGTON - Federal officials said Monday they will investigate why a $1 billion Sept. 11 insurance fund created by Congress to cover claims of sick ground zero workers is fighting the cases in court rather than distributing money.

The World Trade Center Captive Insurance Company has come under increasing scrutiny from Congress and the federal government, as roughly 8,000 individual claims await judgment in the federal court system.

The inspector general for the Homeland Security Department indicated he intends to examine the issue, telling Congress in a report that his inquiry will determine why the insurance company "has chosen to litigate all claims instead of settling whenever possible."

Giuliani steps down from investment firm

New polls show Romney is strong in three early-voting states.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani has stepped down as head of his consulting firm, Giuliani Partners, after months of refusing to disclose the firm's clients or the role he played.

Giuliani's spokeswoman, Sunny Mindel, says the former New York City mayor has been replaced as chairman by Peter Powers, a longtime friend and former aide.

The firm was started when Giuliani left City Hall. It earned him around $4 million last year. The spokeswoman did not say whether he would retain his interest in the company.

While insisting the firm's client list was confidential, Giuliani has noted the media have named a number of his clients.

Published reports have identified one client as the Persian Gulf country of Qatar, which was accused of sheltering suspected September 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, although that country today it is a U.S. ally.

9/11 and Skepticism

Recently I had a chance to debate the issue of 9/11 Truth on Air America radio’s Thom Hartmann show, with an avowed supporter of the official story, Skeptic magazine’s Michael Shermer. It was an interesting experience and some good information was communicated, although the format did not allow for a detailed discussion. This debate did not fully settle the question of which outrageous conspiracy theory was the most plausible, but it did provide another helpful example of how Americans are continually being asked to accept the opposite of what they know to be true.

The debate was widely anticipated in some circles, partly because it took months for Hartmann’s producer to find a legitimate defender of the official version of 9/11. Apparently those who knew something of the official story would not publicly support it, and those who would publicly support that official story didn’t know anything about it. That fact in itself is a testament to the progress made by the 9/11 Truth Movement over the last few years.

New Delhi, March 12: The Pakistan foreign office had paid tens of thousands of dollars to lobbyists in the US to get anti-Pakistan references dropped from the 9/11 inquiry commission report, The Friday Times has claimed.

The Pakistani weekly said its story is based on disclosures made by foreign service officials to the Public Accounts Committee at a secret meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday.

It claimed that some of the commission members were also bribed to prevent them from including damaging information about Pakistan.

The magazine said the PAC grilled officials in the presence of foreign secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan and special secretary Sher Afghan on the money paid to lobbyists.

“The disclosure sheds doubt on the integrity and honesty of the members of the 9/11 inquiry commission and, above all, the authenticity of the information in their final report,” it said.
