On the October 11th edition of The O'Reilly Factor, Bill O'Reilly repeated several false statements about Barrett and called him the usual names; "crazy," "madman," etc. He had two guests -- both students from UW Madison -- the editor of the conservative student paper and a student enrolled in the class. The newspaper editor is outraged, just outraged(!) that her school's reputation is being destroyed.

The student from the class said she wants to hear what Barrett has to say. She also corrected O'Reilly on his claim that students were being forced to read his essay. In a stunningly ironic move, O'Reilly read a quote from the book ("Like Bush and the neocons, Hitler and the Nazis inaugurated their new era by destroying an architectural monument and blaming its destruction on their designated enemies.") and asked her if she knew what that event was. He revealed that it was the Reichstag fire and then used the fact that she didn't know the answer as proof that her poor little head will be filled with Barrett's lies and that she just won't know what to do. She did a great job of standing up to O'Reilly's bullying and condescension, stating that she feels qualified to hear differing opinions and reach her own conclusions (rather than just accepting O'Reilly's).

Maybe this is not even worth the effort. It's hard for me to assess that since, as someone who is nowhere near Washington, D.C., this post will be the extent of my effort. Still, I will lay it out there for anyone interested.

Following this introduction are two emails. The first one I received from Gold Star Families for Peace, an organization co-founded by Cindy Sheehan, about a sit-in they are planning to hold at the White House on November 7th and 8th. It's the usual "We want our country back", "Bring the troops home" stuff, not that that isn't important. But what's missing is 9/11 awareness. A couple of months ago, one of the organizations affiliated with Cindy Sheehan banned Veterans for 9/11 Truth from participating in "Camp Democracy," which is not very encouraging. They are now planning a non-permitted event at the White House. I say we join 'em and spread some truth. Of course, by "we" I mean other people who are nearby and can actually attend. Following the announcement is my email reply to Cindy and GSFP, which I Cc'd to v911t and dc911t.

I'd love to see a picture of someone handing a 9/11 DVD to Cindy Sheehan.

They do indeed. Seriously, they even cover "multiple wargames." Rather, they link to someone else's explanation. Pirate's document is only in PDF format (really fun to work with and copy links for reference). I don't have the time to pick over the whole thing, especially when Pirate's post smells like waste-of-time or promote-my-site bait (notice how Pirate didn't bother to address even one thing from the paper he linked to?), so I scanned the document a bit and when I got to the "World Trade Center is able to withstand a 707 impact" claim I decided to check it out in more detail.

Amy Goodman introduced it as a "national exclusive." Yeah, Amy, you should be so proud. To no one's surprise I am sure, she leads with what hit the Pentagon and flight 93.

The debate starts somewhere around 10-15 minutes in.

Possibly the most disturbing aspect of my 9/11 truth journey -- aside from the realization itself that 3,000 Americans were murdered by its own government -- has been the absense of atheists, agnostics, skeptics and in general "free-thinkers" among those who question the official 9/11 story.

I am puzzled at how people who analzye, investigate, challenge and reject so much of the crap we are spoonfed on a daily basis by our corporatized, consumer, "Christian" society can accept the official 9/11 story with apparently no resistance. And it's not just silence on 9/11 but has turned into active vitriol towards those who dare to question the big lie.

Some of them do it themselves, like Penn Jilette in a May, 2005 episode of Bullshit, where all "Conspiracy theories" are lumped together (including "We didn't go to the moon") and declared to be bullshit. Jilette of course ignores most of the evidence that we are familiar with, finds the least credible-looking 9/11 skeptics he can (including an open mic event at a bar) and then -- get this if you haven't seen it -- trots out a firefighter who lost several friends and comrades on 9/11 who thinks it's patently absurd to believe that the government could have been involved. So that's it, case closed. In closing the show he even admits that the official story itself is a conspiracy theory when he says something like, "Nineteen crazy Muslims... isn't that enough of a conspiracy?" What a fucking asshole. I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't come around to 9/11 truth because I was looking for a conspiracy; I was looking to resolve the cognitive dissonance that I had suppressed for nearly three years after 9/11. But, I digress.
