FOIA Responses: FBI File 203A-WF-210023 and Tom Lantos
The FBI confirmed it has 3429 pages potentially responsive to my FOIA request for records and references re: FBI File 203A-WF-210023, including Tom Lantos. Then in a subsequent letter it said, "the FBI neither confirms nor denies the existence of records which would indicate whether an individual or organization is or has ever been of investigatory interest."
According to this January 20, 2008 article, FBI denies file exposing nuclear secrets theft:
[Sibel Edmonds] says the FBI was investigating a Turkish and Israeli-run network that paid high-ranking American officials to steal nuclear weapons secrets. These were then sold on the international black market to countries such as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
One of the documents relating to the case was marked 203A-WF-210023. Last week, however, the FBI responded to a freedom of information request for a file of exactly the same number by claiming that it did not exist. But The Sunday Times has obtained a document signed by an FBI official showing the existence of the file.

Pakistani and Indian newspapers are reporting that Raymond Davis, the CIA contractor in jail in Lahore facing murder charges for the execution-slayings of two young men believed to by Pakistani intelligence operatives, was actually involved in organizing terrorist activities in Pakistan.
As the Express Tribune, an English-language daily that is linked to the International Herald Tribune, reported on Feb. 22:
“The Lahore killings were a blessing in disguise for our security agencies who suspected that Davis was masterminding terrorist activities in Lahore and other parts of Punjab,” a senior official in the Punjab Police claimed.
Critique of David Ray Griffin’s 9/11 Fake Calls Theory by Erik Larson
Beginning with his book New Pearl Harbor (2004) David Ray Griffin raised questions concerning the veracity of reports of phone calls from the 9/11 hijacked airliners, specifically, Ted Olson’s account. Since at least 2006, he has promoted a theory that the 9/11 plane passenger phone calls were faked, and has speculated this was done with ‘voice-morphing’ technology. He’s done this in many different articles, in books, in speaking appearances, in interviews on radio and television, and in a debate with Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone magazine. In his 1/12/10 essay, Phone Calls from the 9/11 Airliners: Response to Questions Evoked by My Fifth Estate Interview, David Ray Griffin gives the most comprehensive overview of this theory to date, as well as a response to critics, which include people who support a new 9/11 investigation. A Professor Emeritus and skilled rhetorician, Griffin makes a case that is seemingly compelling. However, as I show in this essay, there is no actual evidence the phone calls were faked, while there is a substantial body of evidence demonstrating the calls were not only possible, but did happen. There are many credible reasons to doubt the official 9/11 story and support a full investigation, but the cause of compelling a new 9/11 investigation is undermined by the promotion of theories that are flawed, and not based on hard evidence. In addition, the claim that the phone calls were faked is obviously offensive to those family members who spoke with passengers before they died, and it has the potential to drive a wedge between truth and justice activists and potential allies among the family members, many of whom support a full investigation.

August 8, 2009 Sibel Edmonds testified to her knowledge of foreign agencies' and US officials' corruption and abuse of power; espionage, obstruction of FBI investigations, trafficking in arms and nuclear secrets, blackmail, bribery, money laundering, 9/11 foreknowledge and facilitation of terrorist activities. As Edmonds had been subpoenaed by David Krikorian to testify in connection with the Schmidt v. Krikorian lawsuit, the questioning focused on her knowledge as it related to Krikorian's allegations that Jean Schmidt had accepted 'blood money' in exchange for favors to the Turkish lobby. This is a summary of the first part of Edmonds's deposition; I wrote it as an entry for HistoryCommons.org, so it is in the present tense.

In July 1987, during the Iran-Contra Hearings grilling of Oliver North, the American public got a glimpse of “highly sensitive” emergency planning North had been involved in. Ostensibly North had been handling plans for an emergency response to a nuclear attack (a legitimate concern). But press accounts alleged that the planning was for a more generalized suspension of the constitution at the president’s determination.
As part of its routine Iran-contra coverage, the following exchange was printed in the New York Times without journalistic comment or follow-up:
[Congressman Jack] Brooks: Colonel North, in your work at the N.S.C. were you not assigned, at one time, to work on plans for the continuity of government in the event of a major disaster?
Both North’s attorney and Sen. Daniel Inouye, the Democratic Chair of the Committee, responded in a way that showed they were aware of the issue:

There is a ripple of rage spreading across Britain. It is clearer every day that the people of this country have been colossally scammed. On MSNBC's Countdown Wednesday, Keith Olbermann slammed Liz Cheney for claiming President Barack Obama is "unwilling or unable" to keep the nation safe, noting that her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, and former President George W. Bush, were unable to prevent the September 11th attacks.
Cheney's statement is in response to a claim made in Bob Woodward's recently published book that Obama told him America "can absorb a terrorist attack."
"Americans expect our president to do everything possible to defend the nation from attack," writes Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and Chairman of Keep America Safe.
Josh Marshall of TPM Says His Readers Recommend Looming Tower and 9/11 Commission Report!!!
August 20, Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo posted a blog asking readers to recommend "a good factually-grounded narrative history of the [9/11] attacks, their background, execution and probably something on the aftermath as well." As TPM has done some decent muckraking and investigative reporting, has a progressive slant and has attracted a following of basically intelligent people concerned about political corruption and abuse of power, I was surprised to see that, according to Marshall, the majority of his readers recommended the limited hangouts/mis-disinfo The Looming Tower by Lawrence Wright and the 9/11 Commission Report- but that's what he said. - loose nuke

Alternet posts another disingenuous hit job on those seeking disclosure and accountability regarding crimes and corruption on the part of people in control of the People's government. The left is already skittish of raising questions about 9/11 due to fears of being labeled a 'conspiracy theorist' by Establishment media, pundits and pols, as well as being associated with people promoting BS; now Alexander Zaitchik of the SPLC is saying they'll be associated with right-wingers if they do. The concerns about the obvious CD of WTC 1, 2 & 7 are dismissed out of hand as if they're absurd, and Zaitchik then cites a bunch of hoax claims, implying they're popular with right-wing 9/11 skeptics. When facts are inconvenient, when international law, human rights and history get in the way, when war crimes can't easily be justified or explained away, when logic doesn't help much, the current crop of American political leaders turns to what is now the old reliable: 9/11. We have to fight in Afghanistan because ... somehow ... it's tied into what happened on September 11, 2001. Here's Vice-President Joe Biden: "We know that it was from the space that joins Afghanistan and Pakistan that the attacks of 9/11 occurred." 1
Here's Sen. Lindsay Graham (R-SC): "This is the place [Afghanistan] we were attacked from 9/11." 2
Rep. Mike Pence, the third-ranking House Republican, asserted that the revelations in the Wikileaks documents do not change his view of the Afghan conflict, nor does he expect a shift in public opinion. "Back home in Indiana, people still remember where the attacks on 9/11 came from." 3

WASHINGTON — A white, unmarked Boeing 737 landed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, before dawn on a CIA mission so secretive, many in the nation's war on terrorism were kept in the dark.
Four of the nation's most highly valued terrorist prisoners were aboard.
They arrived at Guantanamo on Sept. 24, 2003, years earlier than the U.S. has ever disclosed. Then, months later, they were just as quietly whisked away before the Supreme Court could give them access to lawyers.
The transfer allowed the U.S. to interrogate the detainees in CIA "black sites" for two more years without allowing them to speak with attorneys or human rights observers or challenge their detention in U.S. courts. Had they remained at the Guantanamo Bay prison for just three more months, they would have been afforded those rights.

The attacks of September 11 were a pretext to a war already under consideration, Gul said. "I think some of the neocons, who were very close to President [George W.] Bush, they wanted that he could embark on a universal adventure of Pax Americana, and they thought that the world was lying prostrate in front of them," he said. The 2001 terrorist attacks helped win the public support for the neocon plans, he said.
There was no legitimate reason for the United States to attack Afghanistan, Gul said, because the FBI had no solid evidence that Osama bin Laden was involved in the attacks on New York and Washington. "Why has not a single individual connected to 9/11 been caught in America so far, and why hasn't Osama bin Laden been charged?" With no evidence anyone in Afghanistan was involved, there is no way to legitimize the U.S. occupation, Gul said."
