The Direction We Are Headed
I must admit that I am growing increasingly frustrated at the direction in which some of the users of this site have been headed. Actions in the last few days have pushed the bounds of reasonable activity and have forced me into a position in which I do not wish to be. Egos and frustration mixed with low blows and antagonation have led what could and should be a positive focus into one of extremely negative vibes. In little position to find a solution it seems there are none in my hands, but only those who help make up this otherwise useful tool for the 9/11 truth movement. Disagreements and differences of opinions stretched out over an incredibly long period of hard work in fighting for what is right have led many to utter apathy and others to misdirected aggression.
Trying to stay on top of this website has grown outside of the bounds of reason, a double edged sword in many different ways. Cries for help for solutions mixed with intentional flamebaiting, name dropping, misunderstandings, and misinterpretation leaves little room for any single person to solve anything. Unimaginable progress over two years seems like so little in minute by minute postings, while time wastes away talking amongst ourselves our adversaries take the ears of what should be our intended audience. Tools abound to facilitate a growing progression mean little in the hands of distraction - is that what this site has become?
What is the direction this site is headed? Will another site without such problems emerge in time to replace this one, or are they already there but not being utilized? Is there any feasibility to having a large tent without being overcome in inner feuds and worthless battles? A big tent with few large actions or many small tents with many small actions? Can a site's users maintain it themselves to prevent self destruction or marginalization, or is such an effort a waste of time itself? At what point can this site go away to facilitate better actions by those who invest so much time in its survival? To what degree is the debt owed by its moderators and its users? Where should the line be drawn, and who gets to draw it? Do we end with a ban hammer bang, or bow out before the mess hits the fan?
I'll leave it up to you.
i agree, i dont see why we
i agree, i dont see why we should create a problem or drama where there really is none. besides, many of the "flame wars" are not just simply flame wars but heated arguments(that may get a bit too heated sometimes)about important subjects that need debating. i think most people here are mature enough not to let a few arguments here and there ruin their day. i honestly dont see a problem here and dont quite understand this.

Stay positive
Yeah, we have to stay focused and positive, there will always be a lot of dis-info on any site we use, some of it very
very sophisticated and hard to recognise for what it is.
Sure people fall out and argue and name call occasionally ,
isnt this life?

I think,
first of all, that you should suspend all comments before you suspend the whole website. I think 911blogger is a very valuable resource for a lot of different types of people interested in 9/11 truth can obtain news updates, inspiring blogs, and activist brainstorms.
I would rather not ban comments, as -- at times -- the comments lead to problem-solving (for example, "is this photo real or not?") and brainstorming ("let's all write a letter to xyz ...") etc.
Admittedly, at times the comments are just one big food fight.
But the site itself I think is very very valuable. Indeed, many of the best-known folks in the 9/11 truth movement check it daily for news. And newbies can "jump into the stream" of 9/11 info pretty quickly.
Agreed
I have been a stong follower of this site for the past half year or so, and a participating member for about the past month. I come here everday to get filled in on the latest news, happenings, what have you. I do notice that certain members ego's do tend to emerge, and only that person in themself can ultimately be responsible for it. Seeing as forums do not allow for face to face interaction, certain people undoubtedly will end up saying perhaps what they would be rather intimidated to do in person.
I share the frustration with all who think this forum is often divided at times rather than being our little hangout to discuss the importance of what turly happened on 9/11. It is important that everyone who posts here shows respect to one another, even if opinions differ. No one learns or benefits if we all think the same thing. If respect is not shown, I do feel however that particular persons priveledges should be suspended. We won't get anywhere in this movement if we continue to stand divided rather than as one.
Complacency is the demise of us all, the power is with the people.
hmmm...I don't see that.
"Is there any feasibility to having a large tent without being overcome in inner feuds and worthless battles? "
I don't think so. People disagree no matter how big your tent is. It's healthy and brings out feelings that many have but might not address. Maybe they are timid or just don't like 'conflict' as they say. But if they see someone else arguing maybe they are more likely to get involved.
I haven't been around this site very much until recently. Mainly the past week. I have been checking it daily and I just don't see what you are describing.
I had a pretty good argument recently. It got down and dirty. Name calling, meany-ism, more name calling......but a lot of debate on the topic at hand. I ended up starting a book related to our 'argument'. Hopefully my point was made to the other side of the isle.
I think it was positive even though I called him a pussy and he called me a dump fuck.
People disagree and debate and argue and get along.
Now I guess you see hidden trash that I can't because you guys "ok" all the blogs. So maybe I'm just not privy to enough information.
With my limited experience...I do not see it like you do.
Second, If you guys ban blogs you should have an online depository of banned blogs...IMO.
hahaha. from a "pussy" to a
hahaha. from a "pussy" to a "dumb fuck" i totally agree. no hard feelings here. and these arguments, despite getting too personal or heated sometimes usually serve a purpose.

Not sure where this is
Not sure where this is coming from. If anything the comments have grown more civil over time. 911blogger is an invaluable resource. 911 truth is reaching critical mass. Pulling the plug at this stage would be insane. It's true that some people come here just to discuss 911 truth amongst familiar faces (or names, rather) and sometimes bicker needlessly, but that comes with the terrority.
I see it differently, dz.
In fact I think 911blogger is quite impervious to provocateurs/trolls and disinformation tactics.
Other than a few annoying flame-baiters here and there, I don't even see why you would write this article!! Maybe I've missed it, but from what I can see, this website is absolutely the best at weeding out trolls.
Take a nap dude, your fatalistic view on this is depressing! Especially because, to me, it seems quite the opposite. To think you're now implying closing down the site seems a bit...well, lol...to say the least, unexpected.
And um, if you shut down the site, you let the enemy win. Can't have that, can we. I need to go shake the negative vibes from my hair now. Thanks man!
Yeah I love this website.
It's an invaluable resource.
If we ignore disinformation, it's not going to go away, so we should be aware of it, discuss it,.
One side of the "double edged sword" will grow sharper as the facts support it, and disinformation will grow dull because the facts will not.
That is the beauty of truth.
Of course shills, trolls, agents, etc., come here to spread
disinfo & to hinder & disrupt truthers. Relax dz, it is nothing new.
I gave this a 10 ...
..even though I admit I haven't a clue about what's happened for two weeks. Our local drama with a git in our group who tried to bollocks up our David Ray Griffin lecture tied up my energy of one week--recovering from the SUCCESSFUL event took another week. Gues I just want to reward the initiative to come out and state there is a problem that ignoring won't solve.
From my recent group experiences I'm going to come down hard against the "big tent-kumbyha" dream--if that means tolerating disfuntional crap, or rubbish. Doesn't work--at least if you want to be effective and accessable, something as 911activists we have to fight tooth and nail for. Also leaving it up to everyone" to just work it out" doesn't work either, unless there is an undisputed authority who has absolute say. At this site, that would be you, dz, in case you didn't know. ;-)
That said, having a clear FOCUS or GOAL of the site, combined with accepatble parameters that support the focus or goal, can help sorting the stuff that's not trolling, but isn't helping either. Another thing to factor is what service is the site giving above and beyond it's stated goals, but that supports them?
My thoughts are being informed by my recent experience with a disfunctional group process, that basically meant our DRG success was INSPITE OF not BECAUSE OF how our organization was structured--or rather non-structured. No, it's not the same for a website, but there are parralells:
-Everyone can't just "do there own--unfocused--thang"--it dilutes your goal and message when people are WAY off topic*cough*"chemtrails".(that's a jab at our local git)
-The purpose/fucus must be stated and clear, or people won't know why youre being a "nazi"
-The organization must be clear--who's responsible for what, communication proceedures, etc.
-What is and is not accepatable must be clear--and why
-And what will happen at the first knowledge of deliberate disruption, must be clear and come swiftly on provocation.
It will sound draconian to some, but you may want to take a page out of the Daily Kos' book- what is or is not acceptable to promote as valid evidence and/or research. You may also want to send people who support speculative(in the unfalsifiable sense) "theories" and who attempt to push them, a warning or three then the boot. Just some ideas. They may sound harsh, but after my recent experience, I am SO over worrying that someone will call my demand for clear communication and process a species of "Nazism".
For the record, MY impression of the purpose of 911Blogger is to share news, info and insights from 911activism so we can become more effective activists, with the goal of making the truth about US complicity accepatable enough to pursue hard legal consequences. A close second is networking and exchanging ideas with fellow 911activists you may not otherwise meet.
To this end, personally, if this was my site, at this point anyone repeatedly pushing info(not discussing, or questioning, but actively PUSHING) that is a screaming liability, I would boot. Fetzer would be so gone, and I would sleep like a baby about it. Go ahead--call me a hater of free speach--I can live with that. But that's what I would do, with MY goals and MY purpose--I'm not saying you should do this--I'm just sharing it as an example of how site managment would support a specific goal, focus that goal and keep it real.
Maybe the problems are more of a personal nature--I did come upon John Albanese doing a creduible job of acting like a troll for no rational reason I could see. I would hate to have it happen, but it could be you're just running out of energy and resources to continue running 911Blogger in it's current form. I'd take a step back and make a wish list of absolutely everything you/we NEED to make it work the way you intend(support you focus/goal). If after that it can't be done, then maybe it is time to bow out.
Well, don't know if any of that helped. I'm STILL knackered from our May 21st event, and as I say, I've been away from the site. Whatever happens, it was a good ride while it lasted.
Impeachment. Accountability. A better world.
Take the Site Down and the Terrorists Win
This site is our morning and evening New York Times, so to speak. Poor analogy, but you know what I mean. Jon flipped out, told everyone to F Off, and it was pretty surprising and a bit shocking, but we are all engaged in a very difficult and emotionally charged struggle. We are all under heavy and unusual stress. It's not everyday that your government attacks you after all. We are all brothers and sisters in a very unprecedented struggle, and I think a little compassion, understanding, and love should be spread around here now. Sometimes soldiers flip out in the heat of a nerve-racking battle. It is just battle fatigue and heavy pressure. I love all you guys, and I will forgive your faults and sometimes unpent stressed out emotions if you will forgive mine. Now every one go smoke a dube, chant Om for awhile, and meditate on forgiveness. We have a big battle ahead. Mellowwwww...
"Jon flipped out, told
"Jon flipped out, told everyone to F Off"
Oh, so that's what this is about. I didn't see this thread, but I'm sure he'll be back. Like Lazio says, we're all under unusual stress in these trying times.
I just got through telling one of my best friends to F off in another forum due to a perceived injustice. Sometimes, online, and particularly after a few swigs of Grandpa's cough syrup, we do stupid shit. We can only hope that people are willing to forgive, and remember the good times.
The vast majority of comments on blogger are respectful and informed. Don't even think about shutting it down!
To clarify...
I certainly did not tell "everyone to F Off." My anger/frustration was directed at certain individuals. That being said, I agree with most everything you said.

Jon knows better than to direct that at me...
or else it's 2 calls from a payphone... ;-)

Yes, I know . . .
As a forum moderator and mail person for 4 websites all I can say is, I know the feeling.
It's a full moon. Just hang in there.
Nurses have told me that they really do see a difference during the full moon, in behaviors of all kinds. Picture our work as like the work of the ER doctors . . . we have to manage the outrageousness as best we can. And know that you aren't alone. I expect that right now it's a combo of things like the full moon, presidential race heating up, the explosive or gradual demise of the Bush Admin, the rooms full of people wearing camo who are sitting at computer screens to "fight the war on terror" online (as shown on 60 Minutes a few months ago) who are using up our time, etc. They consider CTs as part of the war, afterall, so . . .
I'm personally fed up with babysitting people online who are on SSI or with nothing better to do that throw minutae around all day long and scream about it - leave the rest of us alone already! So we have to just recognize it, continue to just draw the line, set the limit, say no, recruit support, etc. Then turn away and do something meaningful. And if it isn't meanginful, then at least fun for ourselves.
This post reminded me
to go check out my horoscope at Astrodienst:
"This is an excellent time for all matters concerned with your domestic, personal and emotional life. Relationships work out far better than on other days, because you are imbued with a strong desire to be warm and friendly to everyone you meet. Others can sense the sincerity of your feelings and will respond in kind. "
Let's just say that is not how my day has been going so far, and I have apologized to dz for my role in the Depressing Debacle that at least partially prompted this blog.
I would like to make a suggestion regarding some of the dynamics that may be going on, by drawing a parallel to my experience organizing the DRG event Col. Jenny has mentioned. It seemed like a tremendous amount of unnecessary conflict arose because some individuals we encountered expected to be treated in a privileged way, because of their long-time standing in the movement. Now, certainly, as someone who places her entry into the movement in early 2006 (and regards the preceding 4 and a 1/2 years of my life with a Homer-like "D'Oh!" at my ignorance) I owe a great debt of gratitude to people who have been Truthers for the long haul. It seems, however, that the nature of this debt is occasionally misunderstood -- it certainly was by the local fellow here. It doesn't mean, I had to explain to him, that I have to agree and it doesn't mean I have to shut up, and I get quite tetchy when I feel as though someone is demanding that of me. However, because I value the discussions via the comments here as much as I do, I'm going to make every effort to bite my tongue and tread lightly when I feel this tetch coming on, rather than coming out with all guns blazing (or insinuations snarking).
Furthermore, I hope everyone who appreciates comments here and likes 911blogger just the way it is will let dz know how much they appreciate the site and his hard work.
Don't despair, Take a break.
I think it's important to step back and frame these events in historical perspective. In reality we are reliving the early 30's. The big difference is, today we are engaging this dialog and whether we agree on the details of who is guilty or how to exact justice, the important fact is we are informing the general public of the Truth.
Therein lies the power of the Truth Movement.
Hitler managed to gain dictatorial powers because there was no network for dissenters and by the time an underground network was created it was too late. All dissenters were incarcerated or executed.
At this point in history we still have the power and the ability, thanks to the power of the internet, to speak the Truth. It is my belief that a dictator can only rule with the consent of the people. This may sound contradictory but as long as the overwhelming majority of citizens, along with the military and law enforcement do not support the dictator, he stands frighteningly alone, even with his close circle of supporters.
My point is, we may not all agree on every thing in this big tent but those of us who are not paid disrupters all agree on one thing. We must tell as many people as possible about what is actually happening in our world. The paid shills on network TV can make a lot of noise but they can't change the Truth no matter what they do or say.
So DZ, I suggest you do what I just did. Escape to some remote location, (Vancouver Island for me) reconnect with what is real and important and don't get f@#$ed up about peoples petty disagreements.
Peace, Phaedrus.
Vancouver Island?
Sooo lucky Phaedrus!
Your health is the first consideration
The 9/11movement has accomplished quite a lot over the past 2 years. Much of the inroads of this accomplishment is the relentless promulgation of information --- an end-run around the mainstream media. I would say that 911Blogger has had, and continues to have, a large effect on information dissemination.
Blogging is not really the ideal medium to have in-depth discussion where you change people's minds on major issues. Too much or too little is read by opposing posters leading to horrible misunderstandings. Baggage from one thread is carried endlessly to others. It can sometimes feel like an extended road-trip with your extended family..... C'est la vie. It is the limitation of the forum as a medium of exchange. If you want to change people's opinions, full articles that address counter claims are much more preferable. 911Blogger offers a venue to post these which is fantastic! Also, good general information is posted by more and more people with each passing month.
A handful of people will argue endlessly using irrational reasoning ---- or what appears to be irrational reasoning. It can rile a person. But, again, the ego will always be there, the arguments will continue, and minds will continue their stubborn clinging to preconceptions. Just like your brother in-law on that long road trip.....
Your health is the first consideration --- scale back as necessary. I would consider GeorgeWashington's input --- if you consider scaling back 911blogger, cut the comments section. I personally would hate to see the comment sections disappear for a variety of reasons: info exchange, considering counter arguments to preconceptions, and collective brain-power....
By the way, if you want to see viscious, unreasoned, pathetic dialog ---- look no further than the Siegal websight ---- Peruse the comments there and compare ---- it quickly puts the little flame wars over the last few days into some perspective.
It's better than walking 30
It's better than walking 30 miles for water every day or making under $100 a year or getting murdered by your government.....

This site rocks
This site rocks.
Im not going to parrot what others above me are saying, but this site is one of the best 911 resource sites on the web. It would be a shame to not have 911blogger anymore.
Hang in there dz, dont let things get you down. Youve done a great job with this site, Im sure you can work out the dificulties.
I don't know where this is coming from
...but I say, "Fuck it. Close it up."
I mean, I for one would love not to have some uber-resource of up-to-the-minute, non-bullshit news. I mean, it takes up all my time! I check this shit multiple times a day! Just think what I could do with all that free time, which is otherwise sucked away by 'zoning out' on the most relevant, independent font of information ever to appear in the modern world.
I mean, I know 9/11 still has some marginal significance to our lives as Americans and humans, but I think it's far more important that all the readers of this site finally move on--and concentrate on the truly important things in life: local NBC news; "Mercenaries" for PS2; Perez Hilton; Harry Potter and the Post-Adolescent Blues; Barak O-bizz-ama; I even think the tryouts for the next spellbinding season of American Idol (I call it "AmerIdo") are starting up!
Fuck 911blogger! 911 is, like, so passe!
Close it down! Close it Down! Close it down! Close it down! ...
See, without comments
we would miss out on stuff like this -- stuff that leads to doubled-over fits of laughter. That, as my daughter likes to say, would make bunnies cry.
Absolutely
I could be watching a cooking show right now!

I don't think it's that bad.
It seems that there's reasonable discussion going on, if there's rediculous flame-baiting, it tends to be voted down or ignored.
I have faith in the people of this movement to discern what's what.
