On Activism, Respect, and Provocateurs
Open letter from the Steering Committee of 911Truth.org
911Truth.org does not promote, condone, endorse, or otherwise advocate defacing or destroying private property ... ever! We are receiving numerous complaints and legal threats in response to "alleged" 911truth.org activists stickering, and now spray painting, private property. In particular, we have just received a call from Michigan alerting us to the fact that someone spray-painted people's homes with "911truth.org" last night. Whether the work of an overly zealous graffiti artist or, more likely, a provocateurs' concerted effort to discredit us, it is clearly unacceptable, illegal, and utterly disrespectful. We are the "truth" movement. Certain responsibilities come with this title, and we appeal to our readers and activists everywhere to act respectfully and reasonably in our pursuit of justice.
Recently, we posted "A Commitment to More Civil and Effective Collaboration in the 9/11 Truth Movement". That same commitment to civility should clearly be extended to the people to whom we're appealing, as well.

One way to get the people mad at us. I got a few harassing phone calls last Friday night. Someone kept calling, and saying things like, "You like being a twoofer? You think you're patriotic? You like giving aid and comfort to the enemy?" It was someone from Scott Depot, WV.

Any genuine 9/11 "truther" would not go around spray painting private houses...
This has all the hallmarks of a deliberate SMEAR campaign.

At the very least you shouldn't use your real first and last name.
Otherwise things like the above, and worse, can happen to you.
It's not hard to find horror story after horror story, of all types and all levels and degrees, if you look around a little. And I personally know a few people who have stories to tell.

Defacing people's private property like that is the perfect way to piss those people off and make them think it had something to do with us in general (as long as it wasn't some dumb ass who sides with us).
Vandalism is being a complete asshole. I don't support it and I don't think anyone here would ever condone it. We should make a statement on the main page about the methods we believe are okay to use. 911truth.org would be wise to do the same. It's the only thing we can do.

Is spray painting public sidewalks and/or putting stickers on public property considered legit?

What is right and wrong for them to do. Let me put it this way - if I walked outside and saw a truth message spraypainted on the sidewalk, I would be psyched. If I walked out and saw that my neighbor's house had been defaced with that same message, I would probably be horrified, offer to help them clean it up and let them know why. If that house belonged to Philip Zelikow, I might have different feelings about it altogether.
Never forget the deep shit we've gotten into by following 'authorities' instead of our own values.
My first reaction to this story was to think 'provocateur'. My second thought was remembering other stupid things done by well-meaning activists. My third thought is 'let's see some pics' - I'm curious about it.
Edit: One time Michael Ruppert got some kind of legal warning or threat because of some grafitti that a friend of mine made that had the FTW url in it... it wasn't on anyone's house though and it never came to anything.

I would suggest people NEVER use actual spray paint to paint anything that they do not personally own.
I would "suggest" people use chalk or tempera (sp?) paint and other non-permanent means to mark anything in public, and you still might get in trouble if you get caught, depending on the jurisdiction. (which could result in monetary fines and other irritations)
Technically, sticking stickers on things is a type of vandalism, but, imo, only a real asshole (cop, DA, or property owner) would actually charge you with anything, but it is a possibility.
You might be in better stead if you used "removable stickers", with a non-permanent glue backing, but most stickers are not made that way. It would be nice if "activist stickers" were specifically made that way.

Who called? Where did this alleged defacement of a private home occur? Who is making legal threats against 911Truth.org? What legal basis would there be to hold this organization responsible for vandalism by persons not affiliated with this organization? Why should I care about threats against 911Truth.org? Who is this group and what do they have to do with me as an American citizen seeking the truth, not the "Truth"? Are they claiming to speak for me? No thanks.

Perhaps a little rough around the edges, as it were, which tends to irritate some people, too many of whom like to use the voting mechanism as a sort of censorship, imo.
I can understand 911truth.org's irritation with being irritated, however, whether it is "agents provocateur" or "misguided activists", it really is only an irritation, since there is nothing they can do to 911truth.org for other people's actions.
The best thing 911truth.org can do is what they're doing.

Yes, it is rough
because the allegation of vandalism of homes is inflammatory and is being published by 9/11 Truth. Before deciding whether it was a "misguided activist" or an "agent provocateur," which is just speculation anyway, I want to know that 9/11 Truth has investigated and determined that the incident in fact occurred. Otherwise, the information should not be disseminated. If it did not actually happen then disseminating the information would have the same discrediting effect without the need for an agent provocateur. I understand the organization wanting to distance themselves, but waiting a day or two to confirm would not be a problem. I see nothing in the letter to indicate that the calls from Michigan are valid.

911Truth.org is not legally responsible in any way for the actions of those amid the general public who would choose to promote the website. But it is still in their interest to distance themselves from these actions, and share with us what is likely an attempt to smear the organization.
By the way, as far as I know, 911Truth.org gets more hits than any other 9/11 truth website. So I think its worthwhile to note the example they choose to set. In this case, I think that this statement is a solid reminder to all of us that certain strategies are counter productive.

Yes, you have every right to be offended, especially because your name was used. I'm not defending the video -- it is not my idea of either appropriateness or art. I don't approve of the video, but my biggest concern is that it is completely counterproductive to discussion of ideas that I think need to be discussed.

Unfortunately, idiots like them, and others, like Nazis and KKKlanners, and all the rest, have the same rights as we do.
I know they are trying to do some stuff with "hate speech" and the like, but it is a VERY slippery slope.
