Popular Mechanics "9/11 Myths" Debunker Cancels Radio Debate
Two hours before he was to debate a member of "Scholars for 9/11 Truth" on a Seattle radio talk show, a research editor for "Popular Mechanics" magazine pulls out.
Seattle - The magazine Popular Mechanics, which recently released a book slamming the 9/11 Truth movement, cancelled a radio debate Tuesday between one of the book's contributors and a 9/11 truth activist just two hours before airtime. The debate, planned two weeks in advance, was scheduled to air on the Dori Munson talk radio program on KIRO AM 710, August the 22nd, at 1:00 PM.
Richard Curtis, PhD, an Adjunct Professor of Philosophy at several Seattle area colleges and an active member of "Scholars for 9/11 Truth," was scheduled to debate Davin Coburn, a research editor at Popular Mechanics and one of the contributors to the book Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can't Stand Up To The Facts, on Munson's radio show. Munson, furious about the last minute cancellation, said that the books PR firm was responsible for the decision and that none of the contributors to the new book would be allowed on the air with anyone from "Scholars for 9/11 Truth."
Despite Munson’s views that those who doubt the official account of the 9/11 attacks are "wingnuts" and "nut-jobs," he had interviewed Curtis on his program three times before. Curtis’ organization, "Scholars for 9/11 Truth," is a burgeoning movement of hundreds of respected academicians who are convinced that the official story about 9/11 is highly suspect, that the 9/11 Commission was a contemptible whitewash and that the government has used the attacks as an excuse to attack and occupy Afghanistan and Iraq.
But whatever harsh words Munson uses to describe 9/11 activists, they pale in comparison to the invective he heaped on Popular Mechanics, who pulled out their man just before the debate was to air. Said Munson, "I think that sounds awfully funky and I think they sound like a bunch of punks. So I’m prepared right now to say that the debunkers are funky punks."
Munson, who described Debunking 9/11 Myths as "fascinating, well-researched [and] scientifically sound," was originally pleased to host a debate between what he calls "the guy who’s shoveling the bunk" and "the guy who’s debunking." But he quickly changed his tone after the abrupt pull-out: "The people who are associated with this book are horrible, horrible, miserable people. Just awful. Awful, awful human beings."
As to who made the decision to withdraw from the debate, Munson’s producer said "There’s a middle man [a public relations firm] involved here. That’s what anguishes me so much about this." Munson agreed, saying "and middlemen are almost invariably weasels."
Munson, who cancelled the hour long segment altogether, was disgusted by the last minute pullout and questioned why the authors of Debunking 9/11 Myths "wouldn’t come on and address one of the conspiracy nuts." He also urged his listeners to "not buy the Debunking 9/11 Myths book because the people associated with it are pathetic weasels."
There’s no word yet on a possible rescheduling of the debate.

If 9/11 Truth scholars are such wingnuts, shouldn't PM enjoy humiliating them in a debate instead of running away like lying cowards?

Proper, professional debate is the key
It cannot be stressed enough how truly important a public debate is regarding 9/11. Not only are we waiting for a proper, open, independent, serious, scientific investigation into the greatest crime in American history, but we are also waiting for a proper debate of what occurred on that fateful day. Defenders of the official myth demonstrate their utter lack of veracity and credibility- not to mention their contempt for the American people- by refusing to enter into a debate with those whom question the official bag o' bunk. Davin Coburn is the very definition of a coward who won't put his reputation where his mouth is. He is a loser of the highest order. Enough said.

Rule#1 No Debate Ever
Sounds like Mr Munson is a bit shocked because he just tripped over the unwritten rule that you're not supposed to actually debate anything (just gear all rhetoric in one direction), and now the PR department has had to make that rule explicit for him.
I think the PR debarment - whose goal is to maximize successful product outcome - tacitly knows that this kind of debate could potentially damage the credibility of the book in some people's minds so that they now decide not to buy it. If I was on the PR department I'd say no debate too. Heck, if he was to get smeared in a debate (and the 9/11 truth community would go crazy posting the audio bites) it would look bad for popular mechanics as a whole and could seriously damage their image. Of course they don't want just any researcher debating him, they'll probably want a specific person who's practiced and been coached on win the debate in the mind of a listener.

Wanna make a real difference and call these bastard pranksters out for who they really are? Writing e-mails ain't gonna do it. What I recommend is that, on 9/11, a large, loud (obviously very peaceful) protest be held in front of the office of Popular Mechanics at 810 7th Ave in NYC. Go right to the source and demand a debate, goddamnit! C'mon. I dare ya to do it! :)

I'll be in town and can do it, will talk to others at ny911truth about this. This spring we had something similar in front of Time Warner HQ right after Charlie Sheen on Jimmy Kimmel, but as thanks.
Debate
We should use a trojan horse type tactic to get debate. Here's a short paragraph from one of the best books I've ever read, "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson: "In the 1860s, journals and other learned publications in Britain began to receive papers on hydrostatics, electricity, and other scientific subjects from a James Croll of Anderson's University in Glasgow. One of the papers, on how variations in Earth's orbit might have precipitated the ice ages, was published in the Philosophical Magazine in 1864 and was recognized at once as a work of the highest standard. So there was some surprise, and perhaps just a touch of embarrassment, when it turned out that Croll was not an academic at the university, but a janitor."
(The chapter is on ice ages and the book has a large number of such eye opening insights into the true, and very human, practice of science. The theory regarding Earth's orbit does appear to be correct and is supported by more recent physical evidence that high technology has uncovered.)
My point is that it is unlikely in the extreme that anyone from the Scholars will ever be debated by PM or any other organization that tries to "debunk" the truth, for obvious reasons. However, they might be persuaded to debate a janitor, or some other non-academic. One does not need a sheep skin to be learned and intelligent. Einstein struggled in school and worked in a patent office. It would be delightful to watch a highly credentialed (sp?) debunker get their ass kicked by a janitor.

I could be mistaken but I think Rodrigez was in charge of or had the master keys to the Twin Towers. I wouldn't concider that a lowly job. Charles Goyette was amazing vs. PM guy!
I only heard the last 5-10 minutes of Charles Goyette & a caller from the audience vs. one of the PM writers, but Goyette & the caller were tearing the guy to shreds! It was fantastic! Goyette & the caller were hammering the PM guy, who then retreated into the strategy of refusing to answer their questions directly. Goyette was great!
This was yesterday morning, and it may have something to do with PM canceling other debates!

With the percentage of Americans waking up to 9/11 Truth growing daily, seems like the quickest way to affect positive sales would be to debate a so-called Conspiracy Theorist and win!
Certainly I would by the book if any one of the PM hacks could stand up against a Fetzer or a Barrett. But to not even try! What a bunch of lilly livered cowards! It's outrageous.
Talk about lacking the courage of your convictions. Why even write a book if you're not prepared to defend its allegations which are purportedly based on sound scientific facts? This speaks volumes!
