Conspiracy Theories Find a Home on the Internet

Morning Edition, August 9, 2006 · Conspiracy theories surrounding the events of Sept. 11 are popping up on the Internet. The documentary Loose Change is an Internet sensation that explores many of these theories. Renee Montagne talks to Dylan Avery, director and narrator of Loose Change. She also talks to historian Timothy Naftali to understand what's behind the fascination with conspiracy theories.

For grins, count the contradictions in the expert's counterpoint.

NPR will do everything to

NPR will do everything to uphold the official version. After all, their own show called "All Things Considered" turned out "All Things Omitted & All Fraud Bought" when it comes to 9/11: the steel structure melted...etc...etc...

I'm really amused by the

I'm really amused by the tack that the media takes in relation to 9/11 Truth: It's just that good old fashioned American penchant for conspiracy theories! Gosh, we Americans just can't get enough of 'em! Mmmm mmm.

Okay, now let's talk about how Europeans have been at the forefront of 9/11 truth, shall we, media gatekeepers for the Big Lie?

Obviously, the reporters and journalists and show hosts can't refute the evidence, so they just label everyone pursuing 9/11 truth (and the criminals who did 9/11) as conspiracy theorists, and thus there's no need to debate the facts.

My local "independent" weekly republished a pretty good story by R.V. Scheide which - while I'm glad it got into Spokane's mainstream - took a similiar position. The author of an upcoming book on conspiracy theories, Kathryn Olmstead, is heavily quoted. However, she had to admit, "Sometimes, they're even successful, Olmstead says, noting that scandals such as Watergate and the Iran-Contra affair began as conspiracy theories until they were proved correct, at which point they became genuine conspiracies."

Vanity Fair, NPR, CNN, Fox, and more mainstream outlets are having to pay attention. The big lie is slowly disintegrating, folks, but the criminals and their supporters will continue working to keep it alive. Look at the war in the Middle East and you'll see why. Keep up the good work, fellow truthers. Remember, WTC7 is the smoking gun....

Dylan needs to bring up the

Dylan needs to bring up the names of the researchers and not let them frame it as though he's the creator of all the theories -- from his interview we have no idea of the breadth of people of all professions who are working on this, we think that a group of 20-somethings came up with a conspiracy that teenagers on the internet think is cool. That way they're able to steam roll it with any man in a suit and tie who can talk about the psychology behind CTs.

No offense to Dylan... I

No offense to Dylan... I love LC2 and am waiting anxiously for LCE. But, I have heard interviews with a number of radio outlets who have interviewed Dylan regarding 9/11. There are people that are great (like Dylan) in formulating thought and succinctly conveying a message. But, there are people, unlike Dylan, that can think quick on their feet and deliver a concise message.

Dylan, keep off the airwaves and focus on LCE.... Let others more media savvy discuss 9/11... please!

at this point - any media is

at this point - any media is good media

the truth movement is about real people reaching out to other real people.

i really don't like to see anything negative said about our icons.

that's just me of course.

V, Dylan is the moviemaking

V, Dylan is the moviemaking genius, Bermas is probably a little better speaker. No biggie. All publicity is good publicity.

thanks for the kind words

thanks for the kind words bozo.

you guys keep in mind that I talked to her for up to an hour, and they only used about two minutes.

i actually DID bring up that it wasn't me with these theories, but you didn't hear that part.

i'm getting better and better at interviews, and I'd like to think I've come a long way as a researcher and a person in the last year and a half.

it's not like I went on national television and said the passengers are still alive. ;)

What does it do to a

What does it do to a 20-something's ego to be in Vanity Fair etc? What would it take for Dylan to say to NPR -- you know what, I want to pass my interview on to Steven Jones and Kevin Ryan, instead. Can you picture Dylan or the LC crowd doing that? That's why they were the chosen ones to have the 'hit.' They have the ego's to think they can do it all and in the process they will be made to look like nut cases easily by the MSM machine, all the while believing they are doing great because their fans will be building them up into icons constantly.

People should stop gushing all over them on here -- they need to learn when it's the right time to put their egos and fame aside and hand the ball to a professional who is standing in the shadows.

What's the guys name who was

What's the guys name who was the consultant to the 9/11 Ommission interviewed here? Timothy Who? Sounds like Nuftalley?

Neocon leanings i would venture.

reader, let me explain

reader, let me explain something to you...

NPR e-mailed me and said "would you like to do an interview?"
I said "yes."

this is not about ego. I'm glad you have your own personal preference as to who's the best spokesman, but this is not your movement. it is everyone's.

V and bozo, I'm somewhere in

V and bozo, I'm somewhere in between your points of view -- or, maybe I can just see both arguments. I guess I'm leaning more towards bozo's side (any media is good media). I guess it just depends on how each media event is framed. I haven't listened to the NPR piece (and probably won't) because just hearing how they decided to frame it by bringing on some historian (as if he's an expert on 9/11) to deflect the entire debate into that tired old "fascination with conspiracy theories" bullcrap. It's as disgusting an angle as when the media talks about how us truthers are getting some sort of comfort from feeling like we know more. Jeezus F'ing Christ.

I don't mean to be brutal --

I don't mean to be brutal -- Dylan et al are working hard and have done a lot and reached a lot of people. But now is the time for the information and the strongest points best elucidated by the actual scientists, not the celebrity and the fame of the film to take center stage. That is the only way to reach people in venues like NPR where people think and are proud of thinking.

I don't mean to attack or sound brutal. The reality of what happens to people when they are jettisoned into fame is something no one should deny or pretend can't happen to them. Everyone is susceptible under such pressure to think they are the answer and they can do it all and be the spokesperson for everyone. This is why there are so many people to fight in the military -- they all think they cannot be killed.

howdy dylan -- amazing to

howdy dylan -- amazing to hear you talked with her for an hour and they only cherry-picked 2 minutes (to fit their agenda, I expect). Keep up the great work, and don't let the naysayers get you down.

reader, if this were about

reader, if this were about ego, I would have taken the MSNBC spot.

instead, I handed it to Bermas, because I believed he could do a better job than I.

we do not have the option of passing our interviews on to people. all we can do is do the best with what we're given.

kevin ryan does not want his face on television, i can tell you that much. he cares too much for the safety of his family.

stephen jones is hard enough to get in touch with, let alone onto a radio show within an hours notice.

stop demanding perfection from us, please.

anytime anyone from the

anytime anyone from the truth movement gets a spot in the MSM to talk about 9/11, that appearence is picked apart ruthlessly by people on this site. see Fetzer below for proof.the perfectionism is annoying as hell.

>>reader, do you think that

>>reader, do you think that NPR would really take 9/11 truth that seriously that they'd bring on the actual scientists?

They are afraid to have Jones on, that's why they don't call him up. But LC could make a spectacle of NPR if they tried to exchange themselves for Steven Jones and NPR refused. Now *that* would make a good scene to have in a next edition.

you were great dylan. the

reader, do you think that

reader, do you think that NPR would really take 9/11 truth that seriously that they'd bring on the actual scientists? These media organizations are so corrupted and compromised that all they can do is try to obfuscate and discredit and do their best to bury the movement.

I love how the media uses

I love how the media uses the same
bullshit over & over when they
address a truth seeker.......
They give the impression that these are his/hers theories alone.....

Example:

"Chalrie Sheen and 911"

They try to give you the impression
that Sheen and Sheen alone is
the only one questioning this.
Like He did all the research himself.

Or

"Madison College Professor has some
wild theories about 911"

When they rarely do mention
"the movement" they just paint us
as bored interenet computer geeks who have spent the majority of
our lifes researching JFK and
need something new to suck on.

Of course they will NEVER bring up
someone of the likes of
Paul Craig Roberts
(and other true patriots).

WAKE THE F%#K UP AMERICA!

>>reader, let me explain

>>reader, let me explain something to you... NPR e-mailed me and said "would you like to do an interview?"
I said "yes."

Yet, imagine if you'd stepped aside for one second and put someone else first -- Steven Jones and Kevin Ryan, or David Ray Griffin. Imagine.

>>this is not your movement. it is everyone's.

Exactly. Let's make it everyone's movement, not just LCs movement. Now is the time to hand over some of LCs power to others for the good of the movement, for once let the scientists and the people who are doing the numbers, currently standing in the dark (!), have the light shine on them.

Again, Dylan you are great

Again, Dylan you are great at making movies with a great message. But let others speak for you when asked ad hoc questions. You need a professional, polished PR person to address these questions, not Dylan and Co. Your producer the other night looked like a thug in his "Investigate 9/11 T-shirt (which I ordered btw). I have been in sales for the past 20 years. I have learned it is not so much about the knowledge you have (which for you, is plenty) but how you convey that knowledge based on your audience. You are what, 22, 23? I almost idolize you for what you have done for the 9/11 movement. But right now, don't let egos get in the way of doing what is right.

P.S. If Aaron Russo can get his movie in theaters, I am expecting LCE to be in a theater near me in September... REMEMBER.. you have a lot of influential friends that can make this happen.

Chris, agreed -- we need

Chris, agreed -- we need solidarity big time

constructive criticism is

constructive criticism is one thing, but this shit seems pretty fucking petty to me.

Dylan: I know I have been

Dylan:

I know I have been critical before, but I really do think you've been doing a better job in media appearances of late, and think an NPR Morning Edition story (which reaches millions in morning drivetime) is fantastic.

As I've suggested before, I strongly do recommend buying yourself (if you don't have one) an iPod with a built-in dictation microphone, and taking it with you to any interviews you do (and recording any phone interviews you do).

I am sure everyone here would love to have heard the full, uncut interview- to see what NPR chooses to keep and lose, and to get a better sense (in all interviews) of journalistic disposition. We do know some journalists (or producers) have been very duplicitious in their dealings with 9/11 Truth folks - setting them up (as with Fetzer on Hannity). Having audio to show that duplicity to the world helps the average person see the degree to which the media is NOT always an object, fair broker.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

V and others: Dylan has been

V and others: Dylan has been on my radio show and he can think quick on his feet. He's a real guy and he tells it like it is. He's genuine and he knows the facts and he can communicate them. He created a world wide sensation (LC2E) that injected more juice into the 9/11 Truth Movement than anything else I can think of. Maybe Dylan could use more sleep at times :) but that's because he's working 24/7 to get the truth out to the people. I'm extremely proud of Dylan - and Jason and Korey.

We all need

We all need solidarity...

And to all you Loose Change detractors out there.. Expend the emotional energy, creativity, intellect and dollars to produce a movie to top Loose Change!!!! It is a great movie and has flipped even my own older brother in realizing the truth about 9/11.

Dylan, keep doing it. But, now you are in the big time. You are making dollars from DVD sales. Get a hired professional to talk about your movie .

jeeeeezus people STOP WITH

jeeeeezus people STOP WITH THE EGO.

i love how easy it is for you to criticize people's every move from behind a monitor.

how bout you guys go on national television and speak to millions of people live? then we can all hop on 911blogger and talk about all the things you did wrong.

or, hey, maybe we can spend our time actually spreading the truth, instead of bitching on a website?

call me crazy.
