CIA chief arrives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Leon Panetta, director of the CIA, arrived in Pakistan on Saturday morning, a Pakistani Interior Ministry official said.

Panetta is scheduled to meet with Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Rehman Malik, head of the country's Interior Ministry.

Panetta was sworn in as CIA chief in February.

Panetta was an eight-term congressman from central California who chaired the powerful House Budget Committee before moving over to the Clinton White House as the budget director and later as the president's chief of staff.

He left government in 1997 and returned to California, where he and his wife created the Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy, a nonprofit foundation.
