President Bush is trying to pardon himself. Here's the deal: Under the War Crimes Act, violations of the Geneva Conventions are felonies, in some cases punishable by death. When the Supreme Court ruled that the Geneva Convention applied to al Qaeda and Taliban detainees, President Bush and his boys were suddenly in big trouble. They've been working these prisoners over pretty good. [h]In an effort to avoid possible prosecution they're trying to cram this bill through Congress before the end of the week before Congress adjourns. The reason there's such a rush to do this? If the Democrats get control of the House in November this kind of legislation probably wouldn't pass."

Bush Self Pardon--my Theory

Here's what I figure (fear) will happen--Bush hands out Presidential Pardons like Santa the first week or so of January (including Condi, Cheney, et.al., then he "steps down" from Presidency with one week to go (personal reasons, whatever), making Cheney the President. Cheney then pardons Bush. Or McSame pardons him if the rig the election next week--it'll be like Ford all over again, for those who remember or study their history. The pardoning game is going to make me puke this year/next.

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." (4th U.S. President, James Madison, Jr., 1751-1836)

yes, it passed

this was before the 2006 election that didn't change anything, except Congress' approval rating went even lower.
