Lead Scientist Epidemiological Methods

The World Trade Center Health Registry (WTCHR) was developed as a public health response to document and evaluate the physical and mental health impact of the September 11th, 2001 disaster on a large, diverse population. The WTCHR provides a means for long-term follow-up of the 71,000 people who have volunteered to participate in the Registry. The WTCHR program, in the Division of Epidemiology, is seeking one City Research Scientists Level III Lead Scientist for Epidemiological Methods to work in collaboration with the Director of Research and other WTCHR lead scientists in evaluation and analysis of WTCHR data.

This CRS III will be the lead scientist for conducting analyses of health outcomes in relation to environmental and other exposures. He or she will work as part of the WTCHR research team under the direction of Registry's Research Director and may have the opportunity to collaborate with other senior academic environmental and occupational epidemiology experts. Specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: design, implementation, and management of epidemiological analyses related to the impact of the September 11th disaster; exposure assessment using a variety of data resources and models; planning, implementing, and analyzing results of follow-up studies on the Registry population; responding to requests for data and analyses from approved external collaborators; collaboration in interpretation and dissemination of findings, including preparation of written and oral reports for DOHMH use, presentation to funding agencies, and to the general public, presentation at scientific meetings, and publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

PhD or other advanced degree in a Public Health discipline such as epidemiology, biostatistics, psychology, demography, sociology, or other quantitative life science.
Experience with statistical methods and applications in one or more of these fields.
Familiarity with survey methodology, cohort/longitudinal and nested study designs, and use of data from linked sources such as cancer or other disease registries or National Death Index.
Proficiency in SAS (preferred) or other statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, SUDAAN).
Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel, Access.
Familiarity with GIS a plus.
NYC residency required within 90 days.
