RNC rolls out Islamophobic propaganda at 2008 Convention.

Edit: Originally titled: "RNC exploits 9/11 footage at Convention for political points" -- the video below makes that title pretty useless.

(Keith Olbermann rolled the tape on MSNBC last night. It's worse than the report below suggests. This is 100% bona fide Islamophobic propaganda. Try to tough it out to Olbermann's comments at the end, but don't say I didn't warn you, this is total fear-mongering garbage. -rep.)

The death of a taboo

September 4, 2008

ST. PAUL -- One of the most enduring taboos in American politics, the airing of graphic images from the September 11 attacks in a partisan context, died today. It was nearly seven years old.

The informal prohibition, which had been occasionally threatened by political ads in recent years, was pronounced dead at approximately 7:40 CST, when a video aired before delegates at the Republican National Convention included slow-motion footage of a plane striking the World Trade Center, the towers' subsequent collapse, and smoke emerging from the Pentagon.

The September 11 precedent was one of the few surviving campaign-season taboos. It is survived by direct comparisons of one's opponents to Hitler.

Let 'em know what you think!

It's obvious in the video that at the one minute mark a building is exploding. That is not a gravity induced pancaking of a building. Damn.

I watched it live last

I watched it live last night. The presentation by the governor (correct me if I'm wrong) of Oklahoma started with a backdrop of the image of the building that was devstated by the Oklhoma city bombing, then came the the USS cole bombing, clips of people of the arab descent dancing and chanting with guns waving the air, an old clip of osama bin laden. It then ended with a 2 minute clip of the 9/11 tragedy including plane hitting the building, the twin tower collapse, people screaming. The 9/11 exploitation surely worked on the mccain crowd as they were chanting "Usa! Usa! Usa!". It was pretty a sickening scene.

The gift...

That keeps on giving. Hmmm... it's almost as if 9/11 was designed for... naaaaaaaah...

BASTARDS!!! I am so sorry to those that lost people that day that they are continuing to use 9/11 for THEIR benefit. I am so damn sorry.

I am so damn angry about this. HOW DARE THEY?

Do these people deserve to know how and why their loved ones were murdered? Do we deserve to know how and why 9/11 happened?

Sickening indeed...

I just kept thinking, "This is what fascism looks like." Crowds of duped people, waving flags, hooting and hollering at having their prejudices pandered to. Chanting "USA, USA!" We can be sure they won't be showing any clips of WTC 7 falling.

One minute mark.

There's still a building clearly blowing up at the 1 minute mark. Right in your face. I never thought people were so easily manipulated until studying this stuff.

It's so over the top it might just wake some people up

With lines like "Freedom.. the very soul of America," as they shove journalists faces into the dirt and build a police state -- who buys this crap???

Rather than go through the trouble of executing another terrorist attack to scare the bejesus out of everybody, they thought they'd just pull out an old one and replay it to get those patriotic juices flowing.

"It was a war we never wanted...but for too long, we had looked the other way." Does anyone believe this??? Don't people read? What war are they referring to?

They are still conflating our wars in the Middle East with 9/11 and even more amazingly, people are still buying it. I am ashamed of my fellow Americans.

The view from further away.

I'm not American, but I do revile the ghastly crime committed on 9/11.

I'm not religious. In my world, there is no afterlife so, to me, taking someone's life is the ultimate crime.

I feel horror whenever I see footage of the WTC bombing and disgust when I think of Bush & Cheney's obvious part in it.

BUT... It would make a nice change if Americans, both populace and personalities, would get as choked up about the 100,000+ Iraqis killed since 9/11 as they do about the 3000 American lives lost.

9/11 didn't cost 3000 lives. It cost more than 100,3000! Lets open the window a bit wider when we look at this stuff. Especially when it comes to the day we judge and condemn the neocons for their inhuman atrocities.

Vincent Bugliosi brings up the Iraqi deaths in his book

"The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder".

In it Bugliosi says that George Bush and his co-conspirators are guilty of the unlawful deaths of the 4000+ American soldiers killed in Iraq and also of the over 100,000 Iraqis who have died horrible violent deaths. He also mentions that 100,000 is a conservative number and that some estimates state that over 1 million Iraqis have been killed since the war began.

Unfortunately, there is no jursidiction in the United States for the Iraqi deaths but there is for the American soldiers, and that is all that is needed to get these people in a courtroom.

Most of us have a hard time with what is being done to the Iraqi people for the purposes of a few oil barons.

Many people who are active on 911 issues recognize the unlawful and horrendous cost in human lives and suffering as a result of the fraud committed on Sept. 11, 2001. Of course, if 911 itself was perpetrated by criminals in the United States then Afghanistan has had a lot of unlawful deaths also.

Olbermann and some commenters are disingenuous...

to suggest that the primary victims of 9/11 were the 3,000 who died on 9/11.

We have all been, and continue to be victimized. Some of us have died (including 1.2 million Iraqis and an unknown number of Afghanis). Some of us have seen our republic destroyed from within and our liberty snatched away. Some of us have been injured or forced to leave our country (millions of Iraqis) and some of us are slowly dying from lung disease (thousands of first responders.) Some of us are living in fear of a nuclear attack (the Iranians.) Some of us are rotting away in underfunded veteran's hospitals, missing arms, legs, eyes, sanity.

"Us" is the human race.

AMEN...

...to that !!!!! I feel empathy everytime I see footage of the women, children & old people being thrown outta their houses. It REALLY does look like what the Nazis did to the Jews in Germany.
I recently saw a documentary on Mohammed Ali, when he converted to Islam, & choose not to fight in Viet Nam due to his religious beliefs, America went nuts !! Another way to demonize the Islamic faith. Another way to demonize someone who CHOOSES NOT to be a flag waving Christian who likes apple pie & believes everything that's being told to them by their goverment.

PLEASE, sheeple, WAKE UP!!! Think for yourselves!! Be that TRUE INDIVIDUAL that you are !!

Iraq War Vet protests McCain at RNC

more protesters were also escorted out

I was watching PBS at the time. At least two more protesters were shown being escorted out while chants of USA! started up. I also caught a bit of Olbermann on Fri (with a guest host) and during a wrap-up of the week's events, many 9/11 Truth signs were shown again, as posted in another blog below on Thurs (the gift that keeps on giving). Also, if you are not in So Cal, you may not be aware of the flap over the background projected on the screen behind McCain in the above video. The green is the grass, and you will see a building also. This is Walter Reed Jr. H.S. in No. Hollywood. It appears that they meant to show Walter Reed Hospital, or maybe this bldg. is simply more attractive. Students and teachers here are not too happy about this abuse. Reminds me a bit of Bush renaming the First Interstate Bank Bldg. as the Library Tower! "We create our own reality", you know.

If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention.
