The Seekers - The birth and life of the '9-11 Truth movement' - villagevoice.com

It's dark in the basement of St. Mark's Church and dark outside on a mid-December Sunday night, but inside they have seen the light. Among the 100 or so people in the room, many wear buttons that read "9/11 Was An Inside Job." Others grip the vital texts in their hands�Crossing the Rubicon, The New Pearl Harbor, or 9/11 Synthetic Terror. Most in the largely (but not exclusively) white and male crowd can quote you the important passages from "Rebuilding America's Defenses" or The 9/11 Commission Report. A few can guide you through the details of concepts like "peak oil" and pyroclastic flow. All of them suspect�and a few simply know�that their government was somehow complicit in the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 Americans four Septembers ago.

This lengthy writeup on The Village Voice covers the gamut of 9/11 skeptics, films, and books. Unfortunately the article glosses over the primary points argued by those devoted to 9/11 truth, and digresses into the all too common undermining comments towards the end:

It's odd. For a group of people who harbor so many doubts about the intentions of their own and other governments, the media, and fellow citizens, much of the Truth movement does not suspect for a moment that our defense spending has been a rip-off, that the FBI is a clumsy bureaucracy, that our spy agencies are deaf and dumb, and that our skyscrapers are not 100 percent safe.

Given the sparse amount of media devoted to the 9/11 Truth Movement - beggars can't be choosy, and any large writeup on the subject is in some way a step towards better public awareness. It is also worth noting that this article was also featured on the front page of rawstory.com today as well.

Our defense spending HAS been a rip-off, the FBI IS a clumsy bureaucracy, our spy agencies ARE USELESS and our skyscrapers AREN'T 100% safe, ESPECIALLY if they can't stand up to thermate. My grandmother eats thermate for breakfest.

I would hope the editor rescinds that inane assertion now. :+: :+: :+:

The media needs to be replaced, including the so-called "alternative media".

Exactly dz. The author presented many comments which he implies have stymied truthers. He should know better. Most/all of these comments were refuted by truthers long ago. For example:

"...Second, many Truth-ers deny having any theory at all. They resist efforts to construct an alternative story of the crime..... By saying they're only checking facts, the Truth activists avoid having to address the weaknesses in their own yarn. Why do the "booms" at the trade center come several minutes before the "demolition"? Why would the government destroy WTC7 when no one knew or cared about it? What happened to the people on the planes?"

The author's above quotes are incomplete and misleading as to how far truthers have developed and shared their alternative theories (and note his word "yarn".) Moreover:

“When the Voice mentioned to Avery that a key firefighter witness denied ever saying there were "bombs" in the towers, and that San Francisco mayor Willie Brown's "foreknowledge" of the attack seemed to have been limited to something the State Department posted on its website, the director was unfazed. "It's just one piece of evidence," he said about the Brown warning.”

The author conveniently omitted that a key firefighter might have been forced to recant his report of "bombs", but many firefighters still claim there were bombs and have said so on videotape during & after 9/11. Also, thereÂ’s more evidence that Brown didn't fly just because of something he saw on a website.

(There are many other deceptive statements in the article, but these came to mind in 5 minutes or so.)

Mark Twain once said that a

Mark Twain once said that a good lie can make it 2/3 of the way around the world before the truth can get its shoes on.

The Big Lie of 9/11 has (had?) a 1000(?)-lap lead on the truth.

Which is why I cringe (it's like having to take penalty lap) when a "leading" 911 truther goes on radio shows and always refers to "the planes" and never "the planes in question", for example. Subtle stuff like that (and "Able Danger") work powerfully subliminally to reinforce the big lie we're trying, and failing (a story this huge should break and dominate every "news cycle" and cover the globe within a week, tops), to overtake (even though we already know that we can't blame the collapses on airplanes; for some reason the masses still blame 9/11 on "hijackers -- and some self-proclaimed 911 truthers help keep that logical disconnect alive!).

Jarrett's articles are far from the worst we've seen, but, IMHO, given The Big Lie's head-start, we need articles with a much higher help:harm ratio if we mean to overtake it.

1] I SHOULD LIKE TO SEE INTERVIEWS WITH EVERY AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER WHO WAS ON DUTY THAT DAY.
2] LIKEWISE WITH ALL THE FIREMEN TO ASCERTAIN IF THEY ARE INDEED BEING MUZZLED AS ALLEGED.
3] IF A NUMBER OF HIGHJACKERS ARE INDEED ALIVE, SURELY THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE CONTACTED FOR DEPOSITIONS.
4] THERE WERE APPARENTLY SOME EYE WITNESSES ON A HIGHWAY NEAR THE PENTAGON WHO REPORTED AN AIRCRAFT.
THERE MUST BE OTHER WITNESSES WHO SHOULD BE FOUND TO PIECE THIS SUPPOSED MYSTERY TOGETHER.
5] BASE COMMANDERS, SQUADRON CO'S, OPS OFFICERS, SCHEDULERS AND PILOTS OF STANDBY SQUADRONS SHOULD BE CONTACTED FOR DEBRIEFINGS.
SOME VERY THOROUGH GROUNDWORK WOULD DO MUCH TO BOLSTER WHAT IS AT PRESENT STILL A CONSPIRACY THEORY, THE WEAKNESS OF WHICH IS THE ENORMOUS NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO NEED TO MAINTAIN SECRECY. IT BRINGS TO MIND AL CAPONE'S DICTUM THAT FOR THREE PEOPLE TO KEEP A SECRET, TWO OF THEM HAVE TO BE DEAD.

I agree with you George. It would be fascinating to get that data and it would help the overall argument. But the cumulative argument for 'inside job' is overwhelming, even if we don't get those testimonies. Have you looked at David Ray Griffin's and Steven E Jones papers on the WTC Collapses? And how do you explain the WTC7 collapse? There is alot circumstantial evidence; criminals have been put away on alot slimmer evidence than we have for 9/11 as an inside job.

And, regarding how could so many people keep a secret, the Manhattan Project was kept secret by tens of thousands of people. Also, its quite possible that only a relative few knew the whole plan for 9/11. Most knew certain pieces-enough to play their role. People are told to follow orders and don't ask questions. People are threatened and intimidated into silence by various means.

The basic ingrediants for

The basic ingrediants for any REAL conspiracy theory are the planners, the decoy, the actual shooter and the coverup machine. The FAKE conspiracy theory requires murdering witnesses, controlling the investigation of the crime, dominating the media and violating the laws of physics. Regarding 911-the planners were the Illuminati, the decoy (or patsy) were the 19 highjackers, the actual shooter was probably in WTC #7, and as far as the coverup machine, what can I say? Hell is going to be one crowded place. If anyone in the "Mainstream" media should happen to read this comment my advice to you is quit your job 'cause it's not worth it! Thanks for your site!!!!
