Q: Ari, is there anything to suggest that this
might not be over? And the extra security precautions that are being taken at airports, is the
President confident that they will screen for the type of weapons that we understand were involved in these
hijackings?

MR. FLEISCHER: Well, I think the Department of Transportation will give you specific
information about their beefed-up safety operations. But, you know, there is just no question this was a
well-coordinated, planned attack that was executed yesterday morning. And we believe that the
perpetrators have executed their plan and, therefore, the risks are significantly reduced.


Q: How do you know that? I mean, what indications do you have and what else besides what
DOT is doing, what other precautionary methods are you taking to try to ensure that nothing --

MR.
FLEISCHER: The reason we know this is because of the resources of the federal government are committed
to learning things. And I indicated the risk is significantly reduced. Obviously, the
President returned to Washington yesterday; the government is open for business today. And that is the course
that we are on.

Q: But, Ari, considering the enormity of the information that U.S. resources
did not know yesterday, why do you feel confident that you know enough today?

MR. FLEISCHER:
Well, I answered the question by saying that this was a coordinated attack that was executed yesterday
and we believe that the risk is significantly reduced. The United States will remain vigilant and the
United States will do everything it can to continue its vigilance.

Q: There is nothing to
suggest that this might have been the first wave?

MR. FLEISCHER: John, I'm not going
to speculate. [Dept

How could a government which was supposedly oblivious to the 9/11
plotters know by September 12 that a single coordinated spectacular was the only thing planned?

That this press conference doesn't appear on whitehouse.gov. Only this one from 9/12/2001.

Reminds me of how both CNN and the White House edited out "ISI Chief" from their transcripts of Condi's press conference on May 16th, 2002.

QUESTION: Are you aware of the reports at the time that (inaudible) was in Washington on September 11. And on September 10, $100,000 was wired from Pakistan to these groups here in this area? And while he was here, was he meeting with you or anybody in the administration?

RICE: I have not seen that report, and he was certainly not meeting with me.

Possible answer

How could a government which was supposedly oblivious to the 9/11
plotters know by September 12 that a single coordinated spectacular was the only thing planned?

Because the FBI found the details of the plot in Atta's suitcase? Asked the already-detained Massaoui? Covert operatives in Afghanistan found out and got the info back to Washington? There could be any number of explanations the government could offer in hindsight, so I am not sure how productive an argument/question this is.. surprised to see it posted so quickly here..

How did they know we were safe?

obviously for the same reason they knew that Chief Bush was safe at Booker T. elementary school.....they just knew.

on the other hand...

maybe we wernt' safe!

maybe we were in grave danger, and they didnt want to scare the kids...

Don't be naive, we haven't

Don't be naive, we haven't the time anymore. It's obvious this was planned in advance to work exactly as it did. Like he said himself, the pres was in Washington later that day, they knew it was done because they allowed to happen in the first place. Or planned it. Whatever the case, we need to stop acting like there isn't a damn thing we can do, go call your senators and representative. Endgame is upon us, and we need to act swiftly.
