Help

We will post some helpful tips here for those having issues with the site. If you have any specific issues be sure to post them in the comments so that we can address them in this section.

Tip: Staying on top of new content
The easiest way to stay on top of what new comments, blog entries, and events are being added is to make use of the tracker tab above. Clicking on the tracker tab shows you where the latest comments are.

Issue: Center column to small to be able to use comments effectively
This issue affects users who are using low resolution display settings. Users who are using 800x600 or lower resolutions will not see this site as it was intended, and should consider increasing their screen resolution as more and more websites are using 800x600 as the bare minimum to view them.

Solution 1: You can adjust your resolution settings in Windows by goint to Start > Control Panel > Display > Settings > Screen Resolution. We would suggest at least a size of 1024x768, but the higher the resolution the easier it will be to navigate the new site and comments. (for the record the creator of this site uses 1600x1200 on one test machine, and 1280x1024 on another).

Solution 2: You can instead make use of a fixed width theme which forces the webpage to never go below the suggested size. This will cause you to have a horizontal scrollbar, but it will give you the screen real estate needed to use the site effectively. The font size for comments is also reduced in this theme so that low resolution users don't have to do as much scrolling. You can enable this theme by logging in, going to 'my account', 'edit', 'theme configuration', and choosing the theme '911bloggerCSS_1024fixed'.

Issue: Browser Incompatibility
We recommend Firefox Firefox or Opera.

How to add images to blogs:

Option 1 - RECOMMENDED: Re-sample your jpeg to no more than 450 pixels wide at 72dpi. Upload to a free service like Photobucket. Copy and paste the automatically generated HTML code into your blog and submit.

Option 2 - Attach the picture via the "File attachments" button below your blog entry interface. This will generate a URL showing where the picture is. Using HTML (technically XHTML), substitute the URL for the one depicted in the example on this page: http://www.htmldog.com/reference/htmltags/img/ --- and place the HTML on the blog exactly where you want the image to appear. Unfortuately, you cannot preview it. You must publish it. You can always edit later. This kicks the blog back into the moderation queue.

Blog Posting Delay??

Hi... is there a delay after you submit a blog or should it appear in your list immediately? Just curious if my submission failed and I need to post again.

Thanks ~ PJ

Yes.

Blog entries go into a moderation queue for review.
